TV-Series
Description
Rumiya hails from the magical kingdom of Juraihelm, serving as a supporting character. As the younger brother of throne candidate Ramia, he reluctantly follows her orders. His primary function involves transforming into a parrot-like bird to act as familiar and advisor to Pixy Misa, the antagonistic magical girl identity of Misao Amano. In this avian form, he employs hypnotic magic via eye contact to force Misao's transformation, consistently expressing regret over this manipulation due to his growing sympathy for her plight.
His relationship with Ramia is strained by resentment and fear, compelling compliance to avoid punishment. He frequently voices objections to her extreme plans, like crashing the moon into Earth, revealing moral boundaries despite his involvement. His loyalty shifts significantly as he develops romantic feelings for Misao, deepening his guilt and driving him to seek ways to protect her, especially when Ramia threatens Misao's personal life, such as a critical reunion with her father.
Across storylines, Rumiya experiences notable development. In the OVA, he openly rebels against Ramia upon learning of her plan to destroy Earth, temporarily aligning with Pixy Misa to stop the catastrophe. Later, after Ramia's disappearance and loss of power, he coordinates Pixy Misa's aid to Pretty Sammy against a new antagonist. In the television series, his conflict intensifies; he pleads with Ramia to stop targeting Misao and tries to help her recover from a breakdown upon discovering her dual identity. Imprisoned after Romio's betrayal of Ramia, he is freed by Ramia's final magic. He then relays critical crisis information to the protagonists and, after hesitation, grants Misao's request to transform into Pixy Misa voluntarily—the first hypnosis-free transformation. During Juraihelm's final battle, he admits his desire to protect Earth stems from his feelings for Misao, culminating in an accidental kiss on her cheek during their farewell, instigated by Ramia.
As a resident of Juraihelm, Rumiya possesses inherent magical abilities, considered average compared to beings like his sister. His magic manifests desires into reality, with limitations preventing inter-world teleportation or breaking powerful curses. His most frequent ability is the bird transformation, used for disguise and espionage while retaining speech and magic. He also demonstrates power to restore or empower magical items, like Pixy Misa's baton. His hypnotic magic triggers and can force instant transformations, though the full scope of his abilities remains largely unexplored.
In spin-off media like the "Magical Girl Lyrical Amira" bonus theater, Rumiya critiques Ramia's attempt to become a magical girl as age-inappropriate. He also appears in a mock movie trailer, depicted in a dramatic scene where Misao holds him while he appears injured.
