Description
Baron Ashura is a composite being created by Dr. Hell, stitched together from the mummified remains of two ancient lovers—a man and a woman—buried alive as punishment for their forbidden affair. A cave collapse crushed the man's right half and the woman's left half, enabling Dr. Hell to fuse the surviving halves into a single hermaphrodite entity. This origin manifests in a physique divided along the midline: the male left side exhibits darker skin, visible body hair, and a bushy eyebrow, while the female right side displays lighter skin with green eyeliner and red lipstick. A purple and black robe typically covers the respective halves.

Driven by gratitude for being granted life, Baron Ashura demonstrates unwavering loyalty to Dr. Hell. This devotion translates into ruthless efficiency, including assassinating Dr. Hell’s enemies like Juzo Kabuto and personally executing survivors of Mechanical Beast attacks. Ashura harbors a rivalry with Count Brocken for Dr. Hell’s favor, marked by mutual backstabbing. Despite competence in strategy and disguise—such as impersonating Dr. Yumi to infiltrate the Photon Power Laboratory—repeated failures against Mazinger Z incur Dr. Hell’s violent punishments.

In military operations, Ashura commands submarines like the Salude and Bood, directs the Ashura Corps infantry, and wields the Bardos Wand to control Mechanical Beasts. Key plots involve deploying beasts like Garada K7 and Doublas M2 to steal Alloy Z, using decoy robots to mislead protagonists, and orchestrating the capture of Mazinger Z itself. Ashura also oversees the retrieval of independent mecha like the rebellious Danube α1, which causes setbacks. After failures, Ashura pilots modified units like the Ashura Mazinger (a captured Mazinger Z enhanced by Dr. Hell) and merges with the colossal Hell King Gordon mecha for a final confrontation, inflicting significant damage before its destruction.

The character meets demise when fatally wounded while ramming the submarine Bood into Mazinger Z. Ashura dies in the arms of Duke Gorgon, who acknowledges the act’s bravery. Dr. Hell later honors Ashura by building a tomb and creating the Jet Fire P1 Mechanical Beast in Ashura’s likeness.

In the *CB Chara Nagai Go World* OVA, Baron Ashura appears in a super-deformed, comedic incarnation. This version retains the hermaphrodite trait and serves Dr. Hell in a lighter narrative, participating in crossover events with protagonists from *Devilman* and *Mazinger Z*. This incarnation engages in schemes like kidnapping the demon Sirene for Dr. Hell but operates within a parody context emphasizing ineptitude over menace.
