Description
Mishio Maeno, daughter of Teruki Maeno and granddaughter of Kouki and Yuki Maeno, represents the youngest generation of her family entangled in the supernatural events surrounding Rin Asougi. A teenager residing in Tokyo's Shinjuku Ward, Mishio possesses a grounded and unpretentious nature despite her family's wealth and status via the Maeno Holding Group, where her father serves as CEO.
Her story ignites upon discovering old video recordings belonging to her father, including footage of Rin Asougi. This sparks intense curiosity, driving Mishio to investigate Rin's identity and potential family connections. Naturally inquisitive and persistent, she adopts an amateur detective persona, frequently comparing herself to Sherlock Holmes and dubbing her friend Kei Tajima her "Watson."
Her investigation brings her into direct contact with Rin. Mishio follows Rin closely after Rin survives an attack by the assassin Laura, an encounter triggering Rin's lost memories. Mishio subsequently shelters Rin at the Maeno estate. Later, she allies with Mimi to locate Rin after Rin's capture by the antagonist Apos. They journey to Apos' castle aided by Tajimamori, a mysterious figure linked to Rin's past.
Unknowingly, Mishio carries Kouki Maeno's time spore—a source of immortality—into Apos' castle. This proves pivotal when Rin, imprisoned near the cosmic entity Yggdrasil, uses the spore to regenerate and defeat Apos. Mishio's delivery of the spore facilitates Rin's resurgence and the story's resolution.
Mishio has brown hair and ochre eyes. Her personality blends youthful enthusiasm with determination, often expressed through her self-styled detective work. She occasionally wears virtual-reality clothing in public, appearing in only undergarments in physical reality, reflecting her unconventional approach to social norms. Her actions consistently drive key plot developments, particularly in the narrative's latter stages where her human resilience contrasts with the immortal beings around her.
As Tajimamori's descendant, Mishio carries a latent connection to the broader mythological conflict involving Yggdrasil and the time spores, implicit within her human identity. Her relationship with Rin evolves from curiosity to mutual trust, positioning her as a critical ally in the final confrontation against Apos.
