Description
Hao Asakura, originally named Asaha Douji in Japan's Heian period, exists across multiple reincarnations. Witnessing humans murder his mother, Douji Asanoha, after mistaking her for a demon ignited his deep hatred for humanity. As an outcast, the spirit Ohachiyo taught him life's positive aspects before accidentally fusing with Hao during an Over Soul attempt. This fusion granted Hao uncontrollable Reishi (mind-reading), constantly exposing him to humanity's darkest thoughts and emotions. This nurtured an "Oni" within his heart and solidified his misanthropic worldview.

In his first life, Hao became a powerful onmyōji, mastering elemental manipulation through Onmyōdō (Yin-Yang Technique) and founding the Asakura family. He competed in the 1000 AD Shaman Fight but was killed by his own descendants when he threatened humanity's eradication. Using the Ritual of Taizan Fukun, a pact with the god of death, he controlled his reincarnation. He chose rebirth 500 years later into the Patch Tribe. During this second life, he stole the Spirit of Fire, one of the Five Grand Elemental Spirits, before being killed again by Asakura Yohken and his former spirit ally Matamune.

Reincarnating a third time in 1985, Hao was born as the maternal twin brother of Yoh Asakura. He retained memories and abilities from past lives, including his signature Reishi and a Furyoku (spiritual power) level of 1,250,000, the highest among shamans. His goal was to win the 2000 AD Shaman Fight, merge with the Great Spirit, and annihilate non-shamans to create a world exclusively for shamans. He formed "Team Hao" for the tournament, viewing followers as expendable tools despite their devotion, though he held genuine regard for Luchist's unwavering loyalty and Opacho's pure-heartedness.

Physically resembling Yoh with dark brown hair and eyes, Hao distinguishes himself with waist-length hair, a taller, more muscular build, and attire featuring a yellow poncho, fingerless gloves, and five-pointed star motifs. His personality blends calm affability with ruthless cruelty; he typically smiles but reacts violently when angered or when vulnerabilities like his grief for his mother or loneliness are exposed. He openly scorns money as a source of corruption, advocating self-sufficiency even through theft. He rejects familial titles like "Big Brother" or "Uncle," though he later adopts them himself.

His combat abilities are vast. Beyond wielding the Spirit of Fire through oxygen-based mediums for attacks like "Magma Upper" and "Onibi," he commands elemental transmutation, curse reflection, Furyoku nullification, and soul purification. Winning the Shaman Fight and merging with the Great Spirit granted him nigh-omnipotence, omniscience, and higher-dimensional existence, enabling universe-level reality warping, soul absorption, and resurrection. Despite his victory, his plan to destroy humanity halted when Yoh’s group summoned his mother’s spirit, persuading him to observe humanity’s potential for change.

In the sequel series *Shaman King: Flowers*, Hao serves as the Shaman King and is represented by his nephew Hana (Yoh’s son) in the Flower of Maize tournament, maintaining a distant yet influential role.
