Description
Eimu Yoake is a mysterious transfer student distinguished by her blue hair and garnet eyes. She appears quiet and reserved, yet wields formidable, agile combat abilities. Initially assigned as Yu Kusaka's bodyguard out of obligation, she possesses the unique power to control two ayakashi—parasitic entities granting supernatural powers—while others command only one. Her primary ayakashi are Akuro-ou, a large blue entity for physical combat, and Satori, a smaller blue-and-white ayakashi capable of mind-reading and psychic abilities.
A critical incident two years prior saw Eimu kill Yu's childhood friend, Izumi Makihara. During Izumi's death, Satori—originally Izumi's ayakashi—facilitated a mental transfer, embedding Izumi's consciousness, memories, and emotions within Eimu. This integration grants Eimu her dual-ayakashi control but required a two-year acclimatization period to coexist with Izumi's presence. The event fractured her relationship with her older sister, Akino Yoake, who serves the antagonist "Kare." Akino disowns Eimu for choosing to protect Yu instead of aligning with their family.
Eimu's character development centers on her evolving bond with Yu. She shifts from detached duty to genuine, independent loyalty. This loyalty faces a severe test when Yu discovers her role in Izumi's death, causing distrust and confrontation. However, revelations about Izumi's final wish—for Eimu to protect Yu—and their shared consciousness deepen their connection, transforming her mission into personal commitment. This culminates in her defying "Kare" and battling Akino, whose ayakashi, Aterui, directly opposes Akuro-ou.
In the narrative's climax, Eimu risks her life to save Yu after his ayakashi, Ryuu, is critically injured. Using Satori's abilities, she enters Yu's consciousness to awaken Ryuu, prioritizing his safety above her own survival. Her actions extend beyond combat; she navigates themes of guilt, redemption, and identity reconciliation through the lingering influence of Izumi's consciousness within her. This duality defines her arc as both protector and vessel for unresolved past traumas.
