Description
Yu Himura endured childhood trauma when an earthquake destroyed his home, killing his parents and younger sister Akane. He carried lifelong survivor's guilt, symbolized by preserving Akane's broken wristwatch; he believed he failed to save her despite hearing her calls during the fire.

After the earthquake, he entered an orphanage and met six-year-old Yuuko Amamiya, who resembled Akane. Wrestling with unresolved grief, he rejected Yuuko's attempts to bond, harshly telling her "I don't want a sister!" before her adoption by another family. This separation caused him to forget her.

Years later, he received a scholarship to Otobane Academy. At age 17, he formed close friendships with Kuze Shuichi and Nagi Hirono. Yuuko, now 16, enrolled and recognized him, though he initially did not remember her. After recalling their orphanage connection, they developed romantic feelings. Yuuko revealed ongoing physical and sexual abuse by her adoptive brother, Akira Amamiya. Yuu helped her flee, and they lived together briefly in a hidden apartment. Their refuge ended when Akira located them and forcibly returned Yuuko home.

Following Akira's death, Yuuko reunited with Yuu. Their relationship was short-lived; she died in a hit-and-run accident on Christmas Eve while retrieving a childhood memento (a ball) from a street. Yuu discovered her body leaning against a tree, where she had sung "A Moon Filled Sky" before succumbing to her injuries.

As an adult, Yuu graduated with an architecture degree and relocated to Australia. He designed a replica of Otowa as a tribute to Yuuko's memory, envisioning it as a peaceful town symbolizing hope and community. He became the legal guardian of Chihiro Shindo, displaying protectiveness over her well-being and cautioning others against forming attachments due to her anterograde amnesia. He frequently waited in a local church, stating he was "waiting for someone" while reflecting on his past losses. Though not religious, he dispensed advice to visitors who mistook him for a church counselor.

Twelve years after Yuuko's death, he learned from Nagi Hirono that her spirit had been sighted in Otowa's original Japanese church. He immediately traveled there and reunited with her spirit on Christmas. He presented her with the bouquet he never delivered on the day she died, revealing he had abandoned atheism though remained agnostic. Yuuko urged him to pursue happiness without dwelling on the past, but recognized his lingering attachment. After her spirit vanished, he received a white feather as a final keepsake.

Afterward, Mizuki Hayama (formerly known as Miki) revealed herself as the child Yuuko had befriended before her death. Together, they overlooked the Australian Otowa, representing Yuu's fulfilled dream of creating a community grounded in resilience and forward-looking purpose.

Personality-wise, Yuu was often perceived as cold, reserved, and deliberately evasive about his emotions or history. He privately enjoyed drawing landscapes but avoided admitting this passion. His guilt over Akane's death and Yuuko's tragic life shaped his guarded demeanor, though he demonstrated deep loyalty to those under his care, such as Chihiro.
