Description
Hōshō Takigawa, known as "Bou-san" or "Monk," is a 25-year-old former Buddhist monk. He left his position at Mount Koya after training there because the temple prohibited music CDs; it was later revealed his family owned the temple, a key reason for him becoming a monk. Professionally, he works full-time as a studio musician, playing bass in a popular local band under the stage name "Norio." Standing 185 cm tall with blood type O, he sports a modern look featuring fashionable clothes, pierced ears, and grown-out hair, defying traditional monastic expectations.

He joined Shibuya Psychic Research (SPR) when hired by the principal of Mai Taniyama's school, initially reluctant to collaborate. Despite this, he became one of SPR's most reliable exorcists, specializing in Buddhist purification chants and rituals focused on locations rather than individuals, using tools like the tokkosho. His colleagues underestimated his strength until Naru sensed Takigawa's potent energy through psychometry. During intense cases, such as the "Blood-Stained Labyrinth," he performed physical tasks like breaking walls and defended others against violent spirits, sustaining injuries.

Takigawa acts as a protective older brother figure to Mai Taniyama, offering exorcism guidance and emotional support. He cautioned her against reckless actions after an overambitious exorcism attempt and comforted her during the "Silent Christmas" case. Their bond includes lighthearted moments, like when he jokingly offered to date or marry her after her jealousy over Naru or her revealing her orphaned status. His relationships with other SPR members vary: he frequently bickers with Ayako Matsuzaki over skepticism about her abilities, yet they collaborate effectively; he respects Naru's expertise despite occasional impatience with Takigawa's unserious demeanor; and he shares a strong rapport and similar humor with Yasuhara Osamu, appreciating his research skills.

During Naru's absence in the "Cursed House" arc, when Naru was unconscious or possessed, Takigawa assumed leadership. He coordinated the team's efforts, contacted Yasuhara for reinforcements, and made critical safety decisions. He also played a key role in uncovering Naru's secret identity as Oliver Davis, collaborating with John and Yasuhara to gather evidence and present their findings.

Beyond exorcism, Takigawa holds a driver's license and operated SPR's passenger vehicle during cases in the 5th and 7th novels. His hobbies include music, and he favors iced coffee. His background and development remain consistent across adaptations.
