Minamoto no Yoritada is the Seiryū of Heaven, one of the Eight Guardians sworn to protect the Priestess of the White Dragon. This 26-year-old samurai serves the Seiwa-Genji clan within the Retired Emperor's faction. Standing 185 cm tall with short blue hair and blue eyes, his innate elemental affinity is Wood, and he wields a sword. Yoritada's character is characterized by intense stoicism, discipline, and extreme loyalty to authority, leading him to frequently suppress his own feelings and judgments in favor of obedience.
A traumatic past event fundamentally shaped his demeanor. As a youth training under the samurai Sadanao, he sheltered his mentor after Sadanao killed a Heike clansman in self-defense and became a fugitive. However, under pressure from his clan chief, Yoritada revealed Sadanao's location. Witnessing Sadanao's subsequent suicide inflicted lasting guilt and a physical scar upon Yoritada. This cemented his conviction that personal judgment is secondary to duty, causing him to accept exile to Kyō as punishment.
Yoritada first encounters the priestess Karin while rescuing her from a horse collision in the capital. Despite initial skepticism about her identity, having previously served the Retired Emperor's recognized priestess, he reluctantly accepts the assignment as her protector. He escorts her through political and supernatural dangers, notably shielding her from a spectral attack that injures him. His development traces a shift from purely duty-bound service toward genuine personal allegiance. Encouraged by Karin to act independently, he begins questioning blind obedience, culminating in a pledge of loyalty to her as his chosen master, not merely an order.
His interactions with Taira no Katsuzane, the opposing Seiryū of Earth, highlight deep clan tensions fueled by their conflicting allegiances (Retired Emperor versus Emperor), resulting in mutual distrust. Despite this, they eventually cooperate during critical battles against malevolent forces. In personal story routes, confronting recovered memories of his past trauma leads Yoritada to initially deem himself unworthy of serving Karin due to his perceived betrayal of Sadanao. Her intervention helps him overcome this guilt. He evolves from a fatalistic vow to "die for her" to a commitment to "live for her," signifying emotional growth.
The spin-off *Yume no Ukihashi* reinforces this evolution. A shared dream revisiting Sadanao's tragedy allows Yoritada to process his grief. Later, instinctively protecting Karin from physical harm, he draws from that experience to prevent real injury. This contrasts his earlier rigid adherence to orders, demonstrating increased autonomy and dedication.
