Description
Osamu Kirin originated as the severed right arm of the demon Kirinmaru, lost during a battle with the Great Dog Demon Tōga 600 years ago in the Heian period. Disposed of in the Bone-Eater's Well by Kirinmaru's subordinate Riku under Zero's orders, the arm traveled through time to the Muromachi period, reforming into a distinct entity named Osamu Kirin. He retained Kirinmaru's memories and combat abilities, remaining within the wellhouse until Kagome Higurashi's time travel in 2000 triggered his emergence into the modern era.

Initially aspiring to become a history teacher, Osamu abandoned this path upon discovering historical records dismissed demons as mythical monsters, ignoring their true existence and contributions. He instead became an English teacher at Saint Gabriel Academy in the Reiwa era. His appearance featured brown hair, green eyes, and a tall, slender build. He typically wore large round glasses and a brown-green blazer with matching trousers, often adding a light trench coat and scarf in colder weather. A distinctive mark on his right arm signified his connection to Kirinmaru.

As a teacher, Osamu displayed a calm and cryptic demeanor. He frequently overlooked disciplinary issues involving his student Towa Higurashi, such as tardiness or fights, without informing her guardians. His personality blended apparent gentleness with strategic cunning, often mixing English proverbs and exaggerated self-praise into his speech. He harbored deep resentment toward humanity's dismissal of demonic history, viewing it as hypocritical given human advancements in destructive weaponry.

Osamu's role expanded when he detected the approach of the Grim Comet, visible only to him. Recognizing it as a threat to humanity, he began frequenting the Higurashi Shrine seeking guidance from the Sacred Tree of Ages, concealing his motives from the family. He actively protected humans from comet-spawned demons, eliminating Shibugarasu attacking children and destroying toad demons in sewers, though he acknowledged his inability to stop the comet itself.

Confronting Towa and her half-demon companions Setsuna and Moroha, Osamu revealed his identity as Kirinmaru's arm and initially collaborated with them against the comet. He coordinated attacks from Tokyo Tower, using pyrokinesis to incinerate lesser demons and guiding the princesses to target the comet's core. During this alliance, he resisted Kirinmaru's demands to access the modern era, fearing the "degenerate age" it would bring. His perspective shifted critically upon learning from the princesses of Kirinmaru's daughter Rion's death centuries earlier. This prompted him to transport the comet to the feudal era using his demonic powers.

In the feudal era, Osamu's motives turned antagonistic. He manipulated Rion by showing her images of the modern world and exploited her unresolved feelings for Kirinmaru. He drugged Kirinmaru, intercepted Rion's attempt to heal him using the Kyūyōkon Root, and encouraged her to awaken the Grim Butterfly. Merging with the entity, he declared immortality for himself and Rion, proclaiming they would rule over humans and "correct" history by eradicating demons. He scorned Kirinmaru as an unfit father and asserted superiority over Riku, deriding him as a "shoddy replacement."

During the final battle within the Grim Butterfly, Osamu fought Towa and Riku, justifying his genocidal goals as necessary due to humanity's rejection of demons. He drained Towa's demonic energy with his sword Zanseiken but was stabbed by her after Riku diverted his attention. Trapped by webbing from Zero's staff, Osamu was fatally wounded when Towa severed his arm—the original link to Kirinmaru. With his dying words, he lamented his failure to protect Rion. His essence briefly resurged later, attempting to isolate Rion from Kirinmaru by invoking her death at a half-demon's hands before being permanently vanquished.
