TV-Series
Description
Moe Higurashi is a supporting character in Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon and appears in the second season, Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon – The Second Act. She is the wife of Sōta Higurashi and the mother of their daughter Mei. Through her marriage, she becomes the sister-in-law of Kagome Higurashi and the adoptive mother of Towa Higurashi, one of the series’ main protagonists. Moe is also the maternal aunt-in-law of Moroha.
Moe is portrayed as a kind, warm-hearted woman with a deep passion for music. She is notably accepting and open-minded, readily believing Sōta’s extraordinary stories about Inuyasha, Kagome, and the supernatural events of the feudal era, even before their marriage. Her easygoing nature and nurturing disposition make her a stabilizing presence for Towa, who was raised by Moe and Sōta after becoming stranded in the modern day. Moe and Sōta provide Towa with a loving home and a normal upbringing, teaching her to value human life and restrain her demonic strength.
Moe’s musical background is a defining trait. She plays both the violin and the piano, and her talents become significant when Setsuna, Towa’s twin sister, stays with the Higurashi family for a week. Moe teaches Setsuna to play the violin, recognizing and praising her remarkable aptitude for the instrument, calling it a talent that only appears once in five hundred years. Later, Moe records the melancholy lullaby that Setsuna plays, capturing it for posterity.
In the story, Moe’s role is primarily that of a caretaker and a bridge between the modern world and the twins’ supernatural heritage. She appears mainly in the early episodes that focus on Towa’s life in the present, as well as during Setsuna’s visit. While she does not engage in combat or possess any special abilities, her kindness and acceptance provide emotional grounding for Towa. Her development is subtle: she grows more accustomed to the strange events surrounding her adopted daughter and remains a steadfast source of support. Moe’s musical ability is the most notable skill she contributes to the narrative, and her nurturing character underscores the theme of family and belonging that runs through the series.
