Description
Takechiyo is the young heir of the high-ranking Mamidaira tanuki clan, with Hachiemon as his loyal servant. After the rogue Shogen Mamiana broke the seal on the Full Moon Raccoon Dog during a storm, he cursed Takechiyo and took the heir's brother Kikunosuke hostage. Miroku intervened in the clan upheaval, rescuing Takechiyo. Recognizing ongoing danger at Mamidaira Castle, Hachiemon arranged for Miroku to place Takechiyo under the care of Jyubei, a corpse dealer trading demon remains and securing bounty contracts.

Takechiyo now works for Jyubei at the Shikabaneya, primarily handling transportation and logistics for bounty missions. He frequently transports Moroha, Towa, and Setsuna using his ability to transform into a giant flying tanuki. In this form, he wears no visible clothing, with facial markings indicating his usual hairstyle. His transformation extends beyond size alteration, enabling him to mimic objects like oil bombs or assume the appearance of individuals such as Moroha, Towa, Setsuna, Riku, Akuru, or Jaken. He utilizes a conch shell to communicate remotely with Jyubei during missions.

Personality-wise, Takechiyo exhibits haughtiness and entitlement, particularly toward Moroha, whom he frequently lectures about responsibilities or debts. He views himself as her senior due to his longer tenure with Jyubei and takes pleasure in assigning her menial tasks like cleaning. He demonstrates deference toward Jyubei and shows politeness when interacting with Towa and Setsuna. A notable vulnerability is his sweet tooth, making him susceptible to bribes involving modern candies like "paper rock scissors" treats brought from the future. Despite his authoritative demeanor, he displays cowardice during combat, often retreating to hide while maintaining a facade of authority.

His relationship with Moroha is contentious yet complex. While he frequently withholds information to ensure Jyubei claims a larger share of bounties and openly mocks Moroha’s indebtedness, he shows underlying concern for her well-being. He cared for her after she was wounded by Setsuna and expressed worry when she became emotional upon learning potential details about her parents’ fate. During a confrontation with Kirinmaru at the Bone-Eater’s Well, Moroha explicitly protected him, urging retreat.

Takechiyo holds significant respect for Riku, acting with servile deference when summoned by Riku’s earring and demanding others show respect toward him as a lord. He exhibits fear toward Kirinmaru, whom he encountered multiple times—first when Kirinmaru disrupted his flight during a mission, and later when Kirinmaru pursued him to seize the Black Pearl. During the latter, Takechiyo fled until finding refuge behind Rin and escaped with Shippō’s assistance.

He confronts his past during the mission to liberate the Mamidaira Clan from Shogen. Though initially reluctant to reclaim his birthright, he participates in the battle, ultimately rejecting his position as clan leader. This allows his brother Kikunosuke to assume leadership. The experience fosters mutual respect and a more positive dynamic between him and Moroha. Despite relinquishing his status, Hachiemon remains loyal, joining the fight against the Grim Butterfly at Takechiyo’s request.

The character draws parallels to Shippō from the original Inuyasha series as a childlike yōkai companion. His species as a tanuki contrasts Shippō’s kitsune heritage, reflecting mythological rivalries. Similarly, his bickering dynamic with Moroha echoes the contentious relationship between Shippō and Inuyasha.
