Captain Blue Jr., also known as Junior, originates from the Viewtiful Joe anime. This young, self-proclaimed hero protects Blue Town, named after his idol, Captain Blue. Junior eagerly anticipated receiving a V-Watch from Captain Blue to become an official hero.
When Joe receives Captain Blue's V-Watch instead, Junior initially feels jealous over being passed over as Blue's successor. However, he chooses to become Joe's sidekick, aiding him with knowledge of Movieland. Later, Captain Blue offers Junior a V-Watch, but Junior declines. Instead, Blue gives him a case containing two V-Yo-Yos enabling his transformation into Captain Blue Jr. with the phrase "Henshin a Yo-Yo Ball Baby!".
Junior primarily employs yo-yo-based attacks in combat. His role evolves from rival to Joe's trusted partner, often joining him on missions. During one incident, Jadow operatives trap Junior inside the mechanical robot Grancharulk. As Joe hesitates to attack for fear of harming him, Junior dismantles the robot from within by removing screws, destroying it and securing victory.
Junior is the youngest hero in the franchise capable of transformation. His dynamic with Joe includes mentorship moments, such as spotting obvious traps Joe misses due to distractions like cheeseburger signs. They sometimes share meals after missions, reflecting their growing camaraderie.
Beyond the anime, Junior appears as a playable character in the spin-off game Viewtiful Joe: Red Hot Rumble.
