Description
Eiji Shinjo is a Japanese swordsman and adventurer who rose to prominence in the criminal underworld's Battle Arena Toshinden tournaments. Trained alongside his friend Kayin Amoh from a young age by his older brother Sho Shinjo, Eiji's path began when Sho vanished unexpectedly. This disappearance drove Eiji to travel the world, honing his combat skills and building his reputation while searching for his brother. His early exploits included defeating Duke B. Rambert, though neither foresaw their recurring clashes.

Learning the first Toshinden tournament gathered elite global warriors, Eiji entered hoping to find Sho among them. He battled through several opponents to reach the sponsor Gaia, only for the match to be interrupted by the tournament's true organizers, denying him a decisive victory. He joined the second tournament with similar motives, unaware Sho had already killed the sponsors Uranus and Master. After the tournament, Eiji confronted Sho. Despite an initial, narrow victory, he ultimately lost. Sho urged him to forge his own path rather than follow his footsteps, prompting Eiji to reassess his purpose.

During this time, Eiji faced the assassin Vermilion in a near-fatal encounter. Though Eiji prevailed, Vermilion warned him of looming threats before escaping. A year later, Eiji discovered this battle was orchestrated by a cult known as the Organization, which targeted him and other fighters as sacrifices for their deity, Agon Teos. Forced into a life-or-death struggle, Eiji entered the third Toshinden tournament to directly combat the Organization. He defeated and killed key operatives, including the pirate Leon and Vermilion. His journey culminated in a duel with his brother Sho, whom he defeated, earning Sho's pride in his growth. Eiji then confronted and killed the Organization's leader Abel and his predecessor Veil, dismantling the cult.

Following these events, Sho entrusted his young son Subaru to Eiji before vanishing permanently. Eiji trained Subaru in swordsmanship and eventually bequeathed his ancestral weapon, the Byakko no Tachi (White Tiger Sword), to him. Ten years later, Eiji became the leader of a new criminal entity, the Gerard Foundation, intending to dismantle it covertly. With allies Eos and Zero, he sponsored and participated in the fourth Toshinden tournament to secure the Four Sacred Arms before they could be misused. During the tournament, Subaru challenged Eiji to test his skills. While proud of Subaru's growth, Eiji maintained a cold exterior. Before they could reconcile, Vermilion reappeared, leading to a final battle where Eiji killed him, safeguarding global security. In an alternate outcome where Eiji defeated Subaru, he berated his nephew for weakness and reclaimed the Byakko no Tachi. However, Subaru's canonical victory led Eiji to acknowledge his nephew's worthiness as the sword's owner, entrusting him with the Four Sacred Arms before vanishing in a flash of light.

Eiji's appearance evolved throughout his journey. Initially, he sported short spiky brown hair and brown eyes, wearing a white headband, a red-trimmed white gi, black pants, leg warmers, and hiking boots. In later tournaments, his attire retained similar elements but featured sleeveless designs, leather undershirts, and reinforced footwear. By the events involving Subaru, his hair had turned white, and he wore a black headband with a red-and-white samurai-style armored gi over his traditional clothing, complemented by bulkier arm and leg guards.

As a fighter, Eiji utilized a balanced, all-rounder combat style centered on his sword. His moveset included projectile techniques like the Rekuuzan (a sword-generated fireball), the Hishouzan (a forward dash followed by a rising spinning slash), and the Mukurowari (a somersault slash). His well-rounded attributes in speed, power, and endurance made him an ideal starting character.
