Hyogo, younger brother to Mutsu, serves Tahomaru—son of feudal lord Kagemitsu Daigo—alongside his sister. Both siblings endured imprisonment by enemy forces until Kagemitsu Daigo liberated them. Recognizing their potential, he brought them to his household, introduced them to Tahomaru, and ensured their training and education to become Tahomaru’s steadfast retainers.
Tall and muscular, Hyogo sports short black hair with distinctive upward-pointing sideburns. He wears a black suikan bearing the Daigo crest over a dark teal kimono and white nagajuban, paired with grey hakama, black shin guards, black tabi, and zori footwear, along with an eboshi hat mirroring Mutsu’s. After losing his left arm to Hyakkimaru’s blades in combat, he replaced it with Hyakkimaru’s stolen prosthetic arm. This adaptation left his left sleeve torn away, starkly exposing the sickly grey artificial limb against his robust physique.
Hyogo displays fierce bravery and self-sacrifice, exemplified when he shielded innocents from the crab demon Bakemonogani. His loyalty to Tahomaru remains absolute. He staunchly opposes dishonorable methods, condemning tactics like exploiting helpless hostages as cowardly and unbefitting a true warrior. This principle drove him to defy Kagemitsu Daigo’s order to capture Dororo for leverage against Hyakkimaru.
His fate unfolded during a final battle where he, Mutsu, and Tahomaru surrendered their humanity to become demons. Transformed, he met his end when Midoro bit off his head.
