Description
Born in Japan (1971), Noriaki Kakyoin developed the Stand Hierophant Green as a child. Its invisibility to others caused profound isolation, hindering friendships and fostering loneliness that persisted into his teenage years; teachers noted his unapproachable nature despite peers not disliking him. During a 1978 family trip to Egypt, DIO detected Hierophant Green, confronted Kakyoin, and implanted a flesh bud to brainwash him. Under DIO's control, Kakyoin returned to Japan tasked with killing Jotaro Kujo. Attending the same school, he initiated an attack by slashing Jotaro's leg and manipulating a school nurse using Hierophant Green's possession ability. Jotaro defeated Kakyoin and extracted the flesh bud, freeing him.
Liberated, Kakyoin joined Jotaro, Joseph Joestar, and Muhammad Avdol on their journey to Egypt to defeat DIO and save Jotaro's mother, Holy Kujo, whose Stand was killing her. His motivations encompassed repaying Jotaro, combating DIO's evil, and seeking redemption for his actions under brainwashing. He became a core member, forming strong bonds, especially with Jean Pierre Polnareff, sharing camaraderie and strategic cooperation. Despite this loyalty, he retained a reserved and prideful demeanor rooted in his past loneliness and disdain for subservience.
Hierophant Green manifested as a long-range humanoid Stand capable of unraveling into string-like tentacles. Its abilities included possession by entering a target's body, environmental manipulation via tendrils, and the projectile "Emerald Splash." Kakyoin wielded it with high proficiency, using it creatively for reconnaissance, combat, and strategic traps. He deployed hidden tendrils to ambush Tower of Gray and used possession to control individuals. Hierophant Green's true form as interconnected strings allowed versatile applications like sensing disturbances or extending over long distances.
Kakyoin demonstrated notable intelligence and analytical skills. He devised a strategy against Death Thirteen, hiding Hierophant Green before unconsciousness to counter its dream-based attacks. He excelled at video games, nearly defeating Terence D'Arby in the racing game F-MEGA. Other talents included martial arts proficiency, painting, and marionette puppetry, though painting and puppetry were rarely utilized after his introduction.
Physically, he possessed an above-average height and fit build, with distinct reddish-pink hair featuring a twisting bang and cherry-shaped earrings. He typically wore a green Japanese school uniform. After sustaining eye injuries from the Stand Geb, he acquired vertical scars and concealed them with dark sunglasses. His appearance varied slightly across adaptations regarding hair and outfit colors.
During the final confrontation with DIO in Cairo, Kakyoin sacrificed himself to uncover The World's time-stopping ability. Fatally wounded, he used his last moments to fire an Emerald Splash at a clock tower, conveying the Stand's secret to Joseph Joestar, ensuring the group's eventual victory. His companions mourned his death. In the spin-off *Crazy Diamond's Demonic Heartbreak*, his spirit communicated with his cousin Ryoko, reflecting on his past loneliness and accepting his weaknesses. He expressed relief that his journey held meaning, as Ryoko had grown up safely.
