Description
Ewen Egeburg, heir to the Egeburg family, was raised to inherit their status. He forged a lasting friendship with Damian Desmond and Emile Elman in nursery school, continuing when all three enrolled at Eden Academy and were assigned to Cecile Hall.
Ewen possesses light skin, an elongated head, and small, square-shaped eyes. His most distinctive feature is his large blond hair, combed back and bigger than his head; when down, it reaches his chin. As an Eden Academy student, he wears the standard male uniform: a black button-up shirt, black shorts, long white crew socks, and black shoes. He frequently carries Damian's bag alongside his own during morning commutes.
Ewen initially displays arrogance, particularly toward those he perceives as lower-class like Anya Forger, whom he dismisses as a "peasant." He actively shields Damian from Anya after she punches him during orientation. Despite this, his loyalty to Damian is genuine and selfless. He consistently supports Damian through academic pressures, social conflicts, and personal setbacks, defending him against detractors like George Glooman. Ewen carries Damian's bag, trains with him for events such as the interclass dodgeball match, and intentionally gets punished to accompany Damian during chores. His devotion includes jumping into shallow water to save Damian despite being unable to swim, leading to embarrassment when the depth is revealed.
Ewen exhibits a mischievous side, teasing Damian about his fear of worms and joining Emile in playful antics like pillow fights in their dorm. He is also naive, forgetting his limitations in urgent moments. Academically, he studies diligently alongside Damian and Emile, celebrating Damian's achievements like earning Stella Stars while expressing frustration when Anya earns one before he does. He corrects Damian's language and suggests focusing on weaker subjects during study sessions.
A defining trait is his passion for space exploration; he aspires to become a cosmonaut, citing the "romance of space adventure." This interest leads him to bond unexpectedly with Anya over shared enthusiasm, even role-playing as astronauts together. During a field trip to Stella Lake, he openly shares this dream, moved by the starry reflection on the lake.
His relationship with Anya evolves from hostility to occasional camaraderie. After initially belittling her, he later engages with her over space topics and participates in group activities like the Old Maid game for macarons, accusing her of cheating after losing. He remains at odds with Becky Blackbell due to her alliance with Anya.
Ewen experiences subtle development, particularly regarding his place in Damian's life. He briefly feels insecure when suspecting Damian has a more important friend, visualizing his jealousy as "Mr. Buzz" after advice from custodian Mr. Green. This resolves when Damian reaffirms their friendship. His loyalty deepens through shared experiences, such as training for the dodgeball match where he blocks a ball to protect Damian, and supporting him during encounters with Donovan Desmond.
