Owaru Ryudo is the 15-year-old third of four brothers and exists as the reincarnation of the White Dragon King of the West. This grants him control over air, wind, and sound through vibrational manipulation. He displays an energetic and brash personality, contrasting his more reserved brothers, coupled with a strong appetite and consistent eagerness for physical confrontations. Despite his disdain for academic routines and occasional carelessness—which often draws admonishment from his eldest brother, Hajime—he remains a gifted student at Kyowa College.

Owaru regards Hajime as a paternal figure, frequently relying on him during peril, while simultaneously acting as a primary guardian and influence on the youngest brother, Amaru, involving him in many activities. His relationships include frequent banter with the second brother, Tsuzuku, though he prioritizes family protection, particularly when their cousin Matsuri Toba faces threats.

Across official adaptations, Owaru features prominently in comedic spin-offs. In Clamp’s 1994 manga serialization, he travels to Osaka to "wake snakes up," though the narrative remains unfinished. Similarly, Kōji Megumi’s 2004–2005 manga centers on Owaru in a comedic role, marking the artist’s debut work. His character development emphasizes his combat proficiency and loyalty, though his impulsiveness renders him vulnerable to manipulation by antagonists like the Four Sisters organization.
