Description
Arata Kaizaki, a 27-year-old unemployed man, becomes a ReLIFE test subject after quitting his first job at a black company within three months. This follows a traumatic incident where his female superior, Michiru Saiki, endured severe harassment. Kaizaki's defense of her backfired, escalating bullying that led to her suicide. Emotionally scarred, he instinctively touches his neck when distressed and avoids wearing ties properly. His abrupt departure created employment barriers, reducing him to part-time convenience store work while misleading friends about his job status, eventually becoming a NEET.

The ReLIFE experiment requires a pill that temporarily reverts his appearance to 17 years old, enabling high school re-enrollment for one year. Physically transformed, he appears slightly shorter with a less defined facial structure and reduced athleticism. Despite academic struggles from forgotten coursework—triggering remedial exams—he displays strong social aptitude, forming friendships and advising classmates on personal matters. Exhibiting maturity and protective instincts, he mediates conflicts like reconciling Rena Kariu and Chizuru Hishiro or guiding Kazuomi Ōga to acknowledge romantic feelings for Kariu. Initially, he resists emotional bonds, fearing unethical consequences from the experiment's memory-erasure clause.

During the experiment, he confronts guilt over Saiki's death and rebuilds self-worth. Supporting Hishiro's social growth, their shared loneliness fosters a deep connection. Upon discovering Hishiro is ReLIFE Project #001, Kaizaki confesses his love, and they date despite impending memory loss. Post-experiment, both join the ReLIFE Laboratory: Kaizaki in the Support Division, aiding others through struggles mirroring his rehabilitation. His approach with new subjects—like Ōga's brother—features energetic encouragement reminiscent of his former supervisor, Ryō Yoake.

Key traits include perseverance, a strong sense of justice, and self-sacrificing tendencies. He frequently comforts others with head-patting gestures but ceases this with Hishiro as romance develops. His adult form has broad shoulders, sharp aqua-blue eyes, and dark blue hair, typically dressed in business attire with loosely worn ties—a lingering trauma response.
