Description
Momotarō Morikawa is an automotive mechanic specializing in self-driving systems. He raised his daughter Kokone alone after his wife Ikumi died in an accident during Kokone's infancy. Profoundly affected by this loss, Momotarō became emotionally distant, withholding details about Ikumi and their past from Kokone. He channeled his grief into continuing Ikumi's unfinished work on autonomous vehicle technology via a specialized tablet computer containing her research and proprietary software.
Momotarō's past involved conflict with Ikumi's family. Their elopement without approval created lasting animosity with her father, Shijima Motors chairman Isshin Shijima. This estrangement worsened after Ikumi's death, centering on control of her automotive research. Momotarō possessed a cracked tablet with Ikumi's completed work. Shijima Motors, directed by executive Watanabe, accused him of stealing corporate secrets and had him arrested three days before the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
To help Kokone understand her mother indirectly, Momotarō created allegorical bedtime stories about a fantastical realm called Heartland. These stories reframed real life: Ikumi became Princess Ancien, Momotarō represented himself as Peach, and Isshin Shijima was the King.
