Description
Shirou Emiya appears in distinct forms across the parallel worlds of *Fate/kaleid liner*.
In Illya's world, Shirou is Illyasviel von Einzbern's adoptive brother. Orphaned and adopted by Kiritsugu Emiya roughly ten years before the main events, the catastrophic fire from his *Fate/stay night* origins did not happen. He carries the surname "Emiya" due to irregularities in Kiritsugu and Irisviel's family registration. Physically, he has auburn hair, golden eyes, and a calmer, more rounded appearance, reflecting his peaceful life. His personality is notably carefree and kind, excelling at cooking while remaining oblivious to romantic attention from Illya, Rin Tohsaka, or Sakura Matou. He often endures comedic mistreatment from others, including the magical device Ruby or family members like Irisviel, expressing discomfort within the heavily female-dominated household. He lives unaware of magecraft as an ordinary high school student. His role involves domestic interactions with Illya and occasional accidental involvement in magical incidents, like being knocked out while interrupting her magical girl transformation.
In Miyu's world, Shirou's history diverges. He lost his biological parents in a city-wide fire caused by the Fourth Holy Grail War's aftermath. Kiritsugu Emiya rescued and adopted him, becoming his mentor in magecraft. They traveled to Fuyuki City to investigate the Sakatsuki family, where Shirou saved Miyu—a perfect Holy Grail vessel—from a collapsing structure during a shadow disaster. Kiritsugu initially intended to use Miyu to save the world, but Shirou grew protective. After Kiritsugu's death, Shirou raised Miyu in isolation within the Emiya residence, maintaining a bounded field for protection and homeschooling her. He became a participant in the Fifth Ainsworth Holy Grail War as the user of the second Archer Class Card.
Physically, this Shirou initially resembles his counterpart but develops a streak of white hair and patches of tanned skin due to the Archer Card's corruption. During the war, he wears a coat similar to his *Unlimited Blade Works* depiction; when installing the Archer Card, he dons a modified version of EMIYA's attire with a red headband and a sleeveless right arm. Later, he wears a kimono akin to Kiritsugu's. His personality centers on unwavering devotion to Miyu's safety, rejecting the Ainsworth philosophy that her sacrifice could save the world. He self-deprecates as "the worst of the worst" upon failing to protect her, resolving to embrace being "evil incarnate" for her sake. He shares a close, ambiguous bond with Sakura Matou, whose death fuels his determination to collect the Class Cards. Initially sarcastic and laid-back, his demeanor grows darker and more akin to EMIYA's due to trauma and loss.
His storyline involves battling Card Users like Shinji Matou (Assassin) and Angelica Ainsworth (Archer) to collect seven Class Cards. After securing them, he uses the Holy Grail to send Miyu to a parallel world for happiness, knowing this act may doom his own world. During this sacrifice, unarmed, he confronts Angelica Ainsworth and endures her attacks. His body deteriorates further under EMIYA's influence until the corruption is later reversed.
