Yoshino Hide, nicknamed Hideyoshi, is a modern middle school student transported to an alternate Sengoku-era Japan where all historical figures are female and human males are absent. Struggling academically in contemporary Japan, particularly in history and facing summer school remediation, her journey begins after encountering a mysterious woman at a shrine.
Physically a teenage girl, Hideyoshi has fair skin, red eyes, and medium-length blonde hair typically secured in two ponytails with orange-bobbled hair ties. She initially wears a school uniform: a white top with a brown collar, yellow lining, a yellow bow, a brown skirt, black socks, and yellow shoes. In the Sengoku era, she adopts a yellow and orange vest connected by a metal pin over a brown belly top, a matching skirt featuring a large orange bow at the back, brown socks, metallic gold arm and leg warmers with tied white cloth, and traditional Japanese sandals with white socks.
Initially lazy, poor at time management, and self-centered, Hideyoshi prioritizes fashion and snacks. She is materialistic, especially about her non-functional mobile phone. Yet she possesses underlying kindness, innocence, and warmth, demonstrated when aiding peasants in a fire-ravaged village. She is clumsy and lacks physical stamina, struggling to keep pace with warriors.
Her primary role involves assisting Oda Nobunaga, lord of Owari, and her retainer Akechi Mitsuhide, in collecting the scattered pieces of the mythical Crimson Armor, believed to grant the power to unify Japan. Though not a skilled fighter and lacking unique weapons or magic, she occasionally uses a spear with limited proficiency. Her value lies in problem-solving and morale-boosting, like motivating villagers during rebuilding.
Key relationships define her journey. She develops mutual respect and loyalty with Nobunaga, who encourages her contributions. Mitsuhide, Nobunaga’s primary retainer, initially views Hideyoshi as a rival due to jealousy over Nobunaga’s attention but harbors latent concern. Hideyoshi’s teacher, Masamune Date, orchestrated her transportation to retrieve the armor for her own ambitions, though she intermittently aids Hideyoshi. Hideyoshi also encounters a talking dog named Shiro, who provides cryptic guidance. Her classmates' doppelgängers exist: Mitsuhide resembles her friend "Akerin," and Tokugawa Ieyasu mirrors "Tokunyan," leading Hideyoshi to use these nicknames reflexively.
Across the series, Hideyoshi evolves from a disoriented outsider to a proactive participant. She witnesses the Crimson Armor’s corrupting influence when Tokugawa Ieyasu steals and is possessed by it, leading to a climactic battle where Nobunaga, Mitsuhide, and allied warlords destroy the armor to free Ieyasu. Afterwards, Hideyoshi returns to the modern world with Date. Despite reverting to her late-for-school routine, her growth is underscored when Shiro reappears, hinting at ongoing missions. Her experiences foster resilience and selflessness, subtly influencing Nobunaga’s shift from conquest-focused to benevolent leadership.
