Description
Kyouka Sawaragi is the younger twin sister of Juli "J" Sawaragi, recognizable by her white curly hair, blueish-green eyes, and signature blue ribbon paired with a long blue dress, shortened for summer. Academically gifted and achieving the highest grades in her school, her personality is friendly and playful. Though not initially a card battler, she learned about the pyroxene stones and the Isekai World through her brother J and his pet cat Okyou. Her primary concern is J's well-being, often worrying about his emotional distance and secretive behavior, prompting her to recruit Toppa Bashin's help to understand and support him.
She first appears during an athletics meet between Toaru and Tonari Elementary Schools, where a misunderstanding leads Bashin to believe she is J's interfering girlfriend. Kyouka observes Bashin and J's growing friendship, hoping it might reconcile J with their mother. When J joins the Thousand Spirits Group as Jack Knight and starts skipping school, Kyouka becomes distressed and actively works to bring him back. She joins Bashin's team, Team Shomen Toppa, for a tournament in Kyoto. During this event, she battles Maccho but loses, her limited skill noted by observers. Later, Card Sensei gives her his hexagonal blue pyroxene stone, enabling her to become a full-fledged card battler.
In middle school, Kyouka becomes a class representative and collaborates with My Sunshine (Suiren) to establish a Battle Spirits club. To secure approval requiring six members, they recruit student council vice-president Manabu Miyagawa, who harbors a crush on her, and others. Kyouka's academic standing helps persuade student council president Setsuko Kirishima that Battle Spirits doesn't hinder studies. During a tournament, Kyouka battles and surprisingly defeats Number Nine of the Thousand Spirits Group using the power of Card Sensei's blue stone, contributing to Team Shomen Toppa's victory and J's return to the group.
Later, Kyouka participates in the King Uchuuchouten Cup tournament with Team Shomen Toppa. She teams up with Meganeko in a tag battle against her brainwashed father, Number Three, and Meganeko's brainwashed grandfather, Number Ten. They lose off-screen and are captured for stone extraction, but are later rescued by J, Hayami Bashin, and the pets. In the epilogue, she watches J depart to study abroad, reflecting on his future dynamic with Bashin.
Regarding Battle Spirits, Kyouka lacks a consistent deck strategy and uses multiple colors. Her recorded cards include spirits like Merat (Red), The BattleBeast Diatryma (Blue), and Angelafish (White). Her X-rare cards are The GiantHero Titus and The HugeBeastLord Behedoth, though the latter appears only in a dream sequence. Her battle record includes losses to Maccho and Meganeko, a win against Number Nine, and off-screen losses during tag matches.
Kyouka does not appear in the manga adaptation, video games, or related merchandise, making her role exclusive to the anime series. A notable trivia point involves her brief infatuation with Pseudo-J, an actor portraying J in a movie; Suiren confiscates the autograph she obtains from him.
