TV-Series
Description
Yu Ishigami holds the treasurer position on the Shuchi'in Academy student council. He wears chin-length black hair typically veiling his left eye, a physical signifier of his social discomfort and fear of others. This appearance contrasts with his more athletic middle school build, diminished by prolonged inactivity following a significant personal incident. Academically inconsistent, he demonstrates exceptional data analysis skills yet struggles in exams, initially ranking 197th before climbing to 8th through dedicated effort.

His personality blends cynicism, social awkwardness, and a deep-seated sense of justice. He frequently voices disdain for conventional social activities and romantic relationships, labeling popular students as "normies," an outlook rooted in past trauma and isolation. Despite his gloomy exterior, he exhibits altruism, often assisting others anonymously to protect their well-being while sacrificing his own reputation. He harbors interests in otaku culture—video games, manga, anime music—though he conceals these passions to avoid judgment.

In middle school, Ishigami intervened upon discovering classmate Ko Ogino cheating on Kyoko Ootomo and possessing compromising photos of her. After Ogino attempted blackmail using the images, Ishigami physically assaulted him. Ogino then manipulated the narrative, framing Ishigami as a jealous stalker, leading to widespread ostracization and a prolonged suspension requiring a written apology for reinstatement. Ishigami refused to apologize despite pressure, remaining isolated until Miyuki Shirogane investigated, validated his actions, and recruited him to the student council.

His character development begins when pressured to join school activities, leading him to the cheer club. There, he encounters third-year student Tsubame Koyasu and develops feelings. During the cultural festival, he inadvertently conveys romantic interest through a heart-shaped gift, Shuchi'in's traditional confession symbol. Initially unaware of the gesture's significance, he commits to self-improvement upon realization, striving to become worthy of her affection. Though Tsubame temporarily accepted his feelings, she ultimately rejected him after graduation, citing uncertainty about dating someone younger and her platonic attachment.

His dynamic with Miko Iino evolves significantly. Having anonymously supported her during middle school bullying incidents—removing hurtful notes and sending encouraging letters with flowers—their relationship starts antagonistically due to contrasting personalities and Iino's role enforcing discipline. After she fractures her arm rescuing him from a fall during Christmas, Ishigami assists her daily as repayment, fostering mutual understanding. Upon her election as student council president, she appoints him vice president, creating a dynamic echoing the series' central pairing.

Key relationships include mentorship under the consistently supportive Miyuki Shirogane; gradual acceptance by Kaguya Shinomiya, who shifts from viewing him as a threat to a valued junior; and editorial collaboration with Karen Kino, whom he advises on writing projects while maintaining discretion to protect her social standing. His family background identifies him as the second son of a toy company president, with his mother also working as a florist, explaining his knowledge of flowers like Sultera—his favorite, which he gifted to Iino.
