Description
Regis Lucis Caelum CXIII became the 113th King of Lucis following his father, King Mors. Born in M.E. 706, he journeyed extensively across Eos during his youth with companions Clarus Amicitia, Cor Leonis, Weskham Armaugh, and Cid Sophiar. These travels featured reckless driving that crashed the royal Regalia multiple times, though he later acquired the mechanical skill to repair it himself. Significant events included a battle with the entity Ultros and a promise to Hunter leader Ezma Auburnbrie to cleanse daemons from Lucian dungeons after the war. An attempt to forge Accordo alliances failed when Lucian forces retreated after military defeats, leading King Mors to contract the protective Wall solely around Insomnia, abandoning outer territories to Niflheim. During this period, Regis adopted the orphan Titus Drautos—later commander of the Kingsglaive—and experienced a permanent rift with Cid over refugee policies.

Crowned in M.E. 729, Regis married childhood friend Aulea. Their son, Noctis, was born in M.E. 736, but Aulea died soon after, leaving Regis as sole parent. As king, Regis bore the burden of sustaining the Wall shielding Insomnia using the Crystal and the Ring of the Lucii. This duty rapidly drained his life force, causing accelerated aging, physical frailty requiring a cane, and a transformation from dark-haired warrior to gray-haired elder. His distinctive appearance featured a black suit, cape, gold leg bracing, and a horn-like crown. Though mastery over elemental magic, warping, and the spectral Armiger arsenal remained, his physical decline severely limited combat.

Regis balanced kingship with profound paternal devotion. Learning from the Lucii spirits that Noctis was prophesied as the True King destined to die eradicating the Starscourge, Regis prioritized his son’s happiness. He enrolled Noctis in ordinary schools, granted personal freedoms, and nurtured his bonds with friends Ignis Scientia, Gladiolus Amicitia, and Prompto Argentum—instructing them to support, not direct, Noctis. This focus created strain as Noctis matured, especially regarding royal expectations. Regis also harbored deep guilt over past failures, particularly during Niflheim’s invasion of Tenebrae, where he rescued Noctis and Lunafreya Nox Fleuret but could not save her mother Sylva or brother Ravus—who grew to resent the Lucian monarchy.

Facing unsustainable war losses and his own waning strength, Regis accepted Chancellor Ardyn Izunia’s deceptive peace treaty offer, recognizing it as a trap initiating Noctis’s prophesied path. He strategically sent Noctis and his retinue away from Insomnia under the guise of wedding Lunafreya, diverting imperial focus. During the treaty signing, Niflheim invaded. Forewarned, Regis positioned the Crownsguard to protect citizens while deploying the Kingsglaive defensively. After rebel sabotage and imperial assault collapsed the Wall, Regis confronted General Glauca, losing the Ring of the Lucii and witnessing Clarus’s death. He escaped with Lunafreya and Kingsglaive member Nyx Ulric through citadel passages, entrusting Lunafreya with the Ring for Noctis. He then sacrificed himself, magically sealing their escape route and facing Glauca alone, falling in combat.

Regis’s spirit joined the Lucii within the Ring. When Nyx later donned the Ring to defend Lunafreya, Regis advocated before the ancestral kings to grant Nyx temporary power despite his non-royal blood, enabling victory at the cost of Nyx’s life at dawn. Regis’s legacy endured; his sword was taken by Ravus, who vowed to yield it only if Noctis proved worthy as the Chosen King. Noctis initially grappled with anger and confusion over his father’s hidden motives but ultimately understood their necessity for his destiny. Cor Leonis later revealed Regis wished only to be remembered as a father on their final day together. A decade later, in the Citadel throne room, Regis’s spirit manifested briefly before Noctis, visibly anguished as the Lucii attacked his son during the ascension trial.
