Movie
Description
Shimajiro Shimano is a young tiger with orange-yellow fur marked by black stripes across his head, back, arms, legs, and tail. He has a white muzzle, white inner ears, four whiskers, and a brown nose. His full name reflects his appearance: "Shimano" means "striped field," and "Shimajiro" means "striped son." His birthday falls on May 5, which is also Children’s Day in Japan, and he has blood type O.

He lives on Challenge Island, a suburban island populated by anthropomorphic animals, witches, and fairies. Shimajiro belongs to the Shimano family, which includes his father Shimataro, a mailman; his mother Sakura, who manages the household and practices ballet; and his younger sister Hana, also called Hannah.

Bright, energetic, and cheerful, Shimajiro displays curiosity and a strong sense of perseverance, often declaring that he will never give up. He is supportive of his friends and family, though he can sometimes act stubborn or selfish—traits he usually learns from. His favorite foods are donuts and strawberries, and he enjoys playing soccer, studying dinosaurs, and exploring insects. He dislikes green peppers and is afraid of thunder and ghost stories. When he lies, his eyebrows twitch involuntarily, though he eventually learns to control this reaction.

Throughout his appearances, his clothing evolves from a jumpsuit to modern T-shirts and shorts. On certain occasions, he cross-dresses as a female character named Shima-Lynne, either to fulfill his sister’s wish for an older sibling or to participate in special events.

His close friendships include Mimirin the rabbit, Torippii the parrot, and later Nyakkii the cat, who replaced Ramurin the lamb after she moved away. Shimajiro is kind and helpful, often aiding those around him. His stories focus on learning everyday lessons like making friends, apologizing, and solving problems, as well as educational themes such as planting flowers, toilet training, and safety rules. He appears in animated TV series, OVAs about traffic and fire safety, and feature films.

In the film *Shimajirō to Niji no Oasis*, Shimajiro and his friends tour a digging robot called the Dig-Bug. When it breaks down in the desert, they meet a girl named Coco, separated from her mother during a sandstorm. Together, they work to reunite them, showcasing teamwork and compassion.
