TV-Series
Description
Atomic Samurai, whose real name is Kamikaze, is a professional hero who holds the rank of S-Class, position 4, within the Hero Association. He is widely recognized as one of the most powerful heroes on Earth and is considered the world's strongest swordsman. In terms of appearance, Atomic Samurai is a 37-year-old man with long black hair tied in a ponytail, dark eyes, and a defined jawline accented by a small goatee. He is often seen chewing on a thin splinter of wood. His attire is a blend of traditional and modern elements, consisting of a hooded red cloak bearing an atom symbol on the back, draped over an open blue haori. Beneath this, he wears a traditional loose-fitting white robe tied with a white sash, and he carries his swords on his left side.
Atomic Samurai possesses a complex personality marked by arrogance, condescension, and a jocular nature. He firmly states that he only acknowledges the strong, which was evident when he initially refused to shake Saitama's hand, deeming him unworthy due to his low rank. He is also notably sensitive about his age, disliking being referred to as middle-aged. Despite his pride, he acts with humility toward those he truly respects, such as the fellow S-Class hero Bang and the other master swordsmen of the Council of Swordmasters. He has a deep, caring relationship with his three disciples, Iaian, Okamaitachi, and Bushidrill, pushing them relentlessly to improve their skills even after Iaian lost an arm in battle. He shows great concern for their well-being and becomes genuinely angered when they are harmed. His confidence can border on overestimation of his own abilities, which has led to significant failures in battle, such as when he recklessly engaged the multiplying monster Black Sperm, believing he could simply cut down all its copies.
Atomic Samurai's primary motivation is the pursuit of swordsmanship excellence and the thrill of testing his strength against powerful opponents. He treats swordplay almost as a game, often taunting monsters as he cuts them down. His desire to witness and understand ultimate strength is so profound that he once challenged King, known as "The Strongest Man on Earth," simply out of curiosity about his fighting style. In a famous incident, he used a unique method of judging a person's skill by having them cut an apple. When King appeared unable to even draw his sword, Atomic Samurai mistakenly concluded that the hero had cut the apple so perfectly and instantaneously that it did not realize it had been bisected. Rather than being intimidated, Atomic Samurai was inspired by this perceived feat to restart his own training, revealing a deep passion for his craft and a genuine respect for those he believes have surpassed him.
In the story, Atomic Samurai serves as a top-tier combatant for the Hero Association, often taking the front line against powerful monsters. He leads his disciples and is a key member of the Council of Swordmasters. His role is not only to fight but also to represent the pinnacle of martial skill and the traditional warrior's code. His key relationships are central to his character. He holds deep respect for Bang, and the two share a friendly, if slightly one-sided, rivalry. He is a demanding but devoted master to his three disciples, who are all top-ranked A-Class heroes. His relationship with Saitama begins with dismissal but evolves as he witnesses feats he cannot explain. His interactions with the Council of Swordmasters are built on mutual respect, and he is deeply enraged when fellow swordsmen are killed in battle. During the Monster Association raid, after his fellow masters are murdered, the dying Nichirin entrusts him with the ancient Sun Blade, a legendary sword that responds to a worthy spirit.
Throughout the series, Atomic Samurai undergoes subtle but significant development. His initial overconfidence is repeatedly challenged by opponents whose abilities counter his own, such as the regenerating Melzargard and the multiplying Black Sperm. These defeats force him to confront the limitations of his technique. His mistaken belief in King's god-like swordsmanship further humbles him and reignites his dedication to training. Ultimately, his character arc moves from pure arrogance to a more self-aware warrior who recognizes that even the strongest swordsman must continue to grow and may need legendary weapons like the Sun Blade to face the greatest threats.
Atomic Samurai's abilities are extraordinary, centered on his peerless swordsmanship. His physical capabilities are immense. He possesses incredible speed and reflexes, able to draw his katana and deliver a flurry of slashes before an opponent can even react. His sword-drawing speed is so fast that even the ninja Speed-o'-Sound Sonic cannot perceive it. He has demonstrated the strength to cut through solid matter with ease, creating powerful shockwaves with a single slash. His signature technique is the Atomic Slash, where he performs well over one hundred quick sword slashes within a single second, reducing his targets to pieces. He can also perform an Air Blade, a technique that releases a compressed blade of air to cut foes from a distance. His primary weapon is a custom-made katana with a cross-guard resembling an atom, but he has also shown the ability to kill monsters using only the wooden stick he chews on or even a blade of grass. Later in the series, he wields the Sun Blade, an ancient katana that grants him even greater power, allowing him to destroy powerful energy spheres and sever the arm of the immensely strong Golden Sperm. For all his power, Atomic Samurai's abilities have a notable limitation, as his slashing attacks are ineffective against foes who can split or multiply when cut, like Black Sperm, or those with fluid bodies like Evil Natural Water.
