Description
Dot Barrett enters Easton Magic Academy as a brash, self-proclaimed "main character," loudly blaming handsome individuals for his struggles with romance and aspiring to join the Bureau of Magic to eliminate them. This abrasive attitude sparks immediate conflict, particularly with Mash Burnedead, whom he dismisses as a mere "side character." Yet beneath this obnoxious exterior lies a strong sense of chivalry, loyalty, and protectiveness towards women or those weaker than him. Good manners, instilled by his family, remain ingrained, like bringing gifts when visiting.

Standing 178 cm tall and weighing 72 kg, Dot sports spiky red hair held back by a black headband featuring three white squares, concealing a warding cross called the Ira Kreuz on his forehead. A single zig-zag magic line marks the skin under his left eye. He wears the standard Easton uniform.

Frequent childhood bullying due to his submissive nature forced him to rely on his older sister, Malta Barrett, for protection. She taught him never to betray a true friend who shows genuine emotion for his sake, forging his deep commitment to friendship. This past fuels his initial insecurity and jealousy but also underpins his profound loyalty.

His core magic, "Explomb," generates explosive fireballs. Basic techniques include rapid-fire "Machinegun Explomb" projectiles and the delayed blast of "Explomb Bomb." When emotions surge, the concealed Ira Kreuz activates, unleashing immense latent power and revealing a cross-shaped mark on his forehead. This state drastically enhances his endurance, pain tolerance, and self-healing. During a critical battle against Epidem, Dot awakens a second magic line, amplifying his power further. He then manifests "Explomb Thirds," conjuring giant cross-shaped cannons on his arms for devastating explosive assaults.

Relationships drive Dot's evolution. His rivalry with the popular and magically skilled Lance Crown evolves into camaraderie after they battle Epidem together. He harbors persistent, unrequited love for Lemon Irvine, even changing his hairstyle upon deducing she prefers boys with bangs. His dynamic with Mash shifts from hostility to deep friendship after Mash saves him from Silva Iron; Dot eventually acknowledges Mash's non-magical strength and respects him as a rival. He maintains a caring bond with his sister Malta and shares a dorm room with Lance Crown, situated across from Mash and Finn Ames.

Dot progresses from a comically jealous antagonist to a fiercely loyal comrade who prioritizes friendship, even risking his life for allies like Mash despite societal stigma. He learns voluntary control over the Ira Kreuz, reflecting growing emotional mastery, though he still succumbs to outbursts and delusions of grandeur. His interests include reading Monthly Prophet magazines, playing violin, singing, and consuming omurice. He avoids wasting food, excels in Magic Language, but struggles with Magic Mathematics. Trivia notes his original conception as the protagonist of a separate manga by creator Hajime Komoto before integration into Mashle, his initial English localization as "Daut," his self-created "Handsomeness Degree" ranking system for male peers, and minor quirks like displaying a suit of armor in his room resembling school hallway decorations.
