Description
Walther Lindstedt is a high-ranking knight of the Neo-Britannian Empire's Einberg Order, holding the position of Schwarz Bishop. He hails from the noble Lindstedt family, historically aides to the Britannian imperial family in Hokkaido. His family relocated to support Princess Sherry le Britannia after her marriage to Governor Jugo Sumeragi. Walther was personally appointed as Princess Sherry's Knight of Honor; following her death, his loyalty extended to her daughter, Sakuya Sumeragi.
He presents as a stern, towering middle-aged man with neatly slicked-back light blond hair and a gentle demeanor. He typically wears a formal white military-style uniform featuring utilitarian design elements: blue and gold accents, gold epaulettes, a high-collared shirt, and black boots. His appearance conveys greater formality and restraint than other Neo-Britannian officers.
Calm, polite, and reserved, Walther consistently carries out duties without complaint. Despite his position, he quietly disapproves of the regime's harsh methods and oppression of the Japanese people. He prioritizes honor and loyalty above blind obedience, creating internal conflict between his duties and conscience. His integrity includes a lack of racial prejudice, aligning with Princess Sherry and Jugo Sumeragi's compassionate governance.
Initially assigned to protect "Empress Sakuya," Walther deduces he guards Sakura Haruyanagi-no-miya, Sakuya's childhood friend and decoy. He gently confronts Sakura about her true identity but chooses to keep her secret and continues protecting her out of fidelity to Sherry's lineage. During an assault by the Knightmare Frame Loki on the palace, Walther aids Sakura's escape through underground passages, secures permission to deploy a Knightmare Frame, and mobilizes loyalist forces to support her safety and directives. He collaborates covertly with figures like Catherine Sabathra and Narah Vaughn, who outwardly serve Neo-Britannia but oppose leader Norland von Lunebelg.
Walther's loyalty defines his key relationships. He remains devoted to Princess Sherry's legacy and, by extension, Sakuya Sumeragi. This allegiance drives his protection of Sakura, whom he supports as both duty and moral choice. Within Neo-Britannia, he interacts professionally with figures like Catherine Sabathra and Natalia Luxembourg but harbors no genuine loyalty to Norland von Lunebelg or the regime's leadership. His actions consistently reflect commitment to Sherry's family, whether shielding Sakura or facilitating resistance efforts.
Following Hokkaido's liberation, Walther survives the conflict. Though not explicitly depicted in the epilogue, his enduring dedication suggests he continues to serve Sakuya Sumeragi after her coronation as Empress.
