Description
Ruby Hoshino began existence as Sarina Tendoji, a 12-year-old terminally ill with anaplastic astrocytoma. Hospitalized and neglected by her parents, Sarina found comfort in her intense fandom for idol Ai Hoshino and a close bond with her doctor, Gorou Amamiya. She dreamed of becoming an idol herself but died before achieving it, wishing aloud to be reborn as Ai's child. Her final moments held unrequited feelings for Gorou, expressed through a joke about marrying him someday.
Reincarnated as Ai Hoshino's daughter and twin sister to Aquamarine "Aqua" Hoshino, Ruby retained her past life memories. Thrilled by her new identity, she idolized Ai and trained rigorously under her from a young age to become an idol. Ruby displayed an extroverted, optimistic personality, a stark contrast to Aqua's reserved nature, and deeply cherished her family. Physically resembling Ai, she had blonde hair in pigtails, ruby-pink eyes, and inherited the distinctive six-star pupils in her left eye, later developing one in her right eye as her fame increased.
Ai's murder by a stalker devastated Ruby. Initially, she resolved to honor Ai's legacy by reforming the idol group B-Komachi, focusing on her dream over revenge. She recruited Kana Arima and Mem-Cho, overcoming early tensions with Kana to forge genuine friendships. Despite natural charisma and dance skills taught by Ai, Ruby initially struggled with singing, scoring poorly in auditions. Her early career included television appearances like the reality show *Dig Deep! One Chance*, where she cultivated a public "airhead sister" persona.
A trip to Takachiho revealed Gorou's corpse, confirming the same killer murdered both Ai and him. This discovery triggered a dark shift: Ruby abandoned her idealism, embracing manipulation and manufactured scandals to accelerate her fame and lure the culprit. She exploited relationships, feigning friendship with colleagues while privately disdainful, and blackmailed industry contacts like Tetsu Urushibara. Her singing improved significantly during this time, and she developed a captivating "murderous aura."
After Aqua publicly exposed Ai's hidden motherhood to protect Kana, Ruby severed ties with him, viewing it as a betrayal. Her mental state deteriorated until a breakdown saw her lamenting her misfortunes while clutching a keychain Gorou gave Sarina. Aqua overheard, recognized her as Sarina, and revealed his identity as Gorou. Ruby tearfully embraced him, overjoyed by their reunion. Aqua encouraged her to stop emulating Ai and embrace her own identity, reminding her of Sarina's resilience. This restored Ruby's original six-star eye and her resolve to "shine brighter than Ai."
Ruby later starred as Ai in the biographical film *The 15 Year Lie*. During rehearsals, she kissed Aqua under the pretext of practicing a scene, blurring past and present feelings for Gorou. The film deepened her understanding of Ai's struggles with lies and love.
Following Aqua's death during his confrontation with their father, Ruby channeled her grief into her idol career. She performed at Tokyo Dome, fulfilling Ai's unrealized dream, while masking her pain with a fabricated smile to inspire fans. Her final scenes implied an embrace of a persona built on performative happiness, mirroring Ai's reliance on "lies" to bring joy, solidifying her status as a symbol of resilience.
