TV-Series
Description
Yuya Kazami works as an assistant inspector in the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department's Public Security Bureau. He operates as a direct subordinate under Rei Furuya's command, despite being one year older than Rei. Kazami executes missions collaboratively with Rei, demonstrating significant trust in his leader's instructions and typically carrying them out without extensive questioning.

His personality reveals distinct contrasts. During investigations, Kazami adopts a stern and demanding approach, sometimes employing threats with his firearm and fabricating evidence to pressure suspects—tactics intended to expedite resolutions. He releases individuals once decisive proof of innocence emerges. Off-duty, he displays a more approachable side, showcasing a playful sense of humor, an interest in attractive women, and specific preferences like enjoying spicy curry while disliking celery. He engages in video games but displays limited deduction skills, struggling to identify an online gaming partner on his phone.

Physically, Kazami is tall with fair skin. He consistently appears in professional attire: a green suit, red tie, and oval-shaped glasses, with a slightly unkempt hairstyle. While proficient in firearms handling, he lacks athletic capabilities, which occasionally impacts his effectiveness during physical confrontations.

Kazami participates in several significant cases across media. In the manga arc "Haibara's Lost Phone Strap," he assists Rei by inspecting a train window to identify a child's name. During the "Trapped at Hatoyama Farm" incident, he is overpowered and confined underground, necessitating rescue. To protect his and Rei's undercover statuses from civilians, he adopts the alias Danroku Hida, posing as Rei's assistant. His non-canon movie appearances include confronting Organization member Curaçao in "The Darkest Nightmare," where he transports her to an aquarium Ferris wheel and interrogates her under threat of torture before she overpowers him; he later survives the Ferris wheel's collapse. Subsequent films depict him sustaining injuries during an explosion at a smart city facility ("Zero the Enforcer") and identifying chemical neutralizers for bombs used by the serial bomber Plamya ("The Bride of Halloween").

Kazami maintains formal relationships with most colleagues, addressing Wataru Takagi as "Sergeant Takagi" and Miwako Sato as "Lieutenant Inspector Sato." He shows particular deference toward Rei, using variations of "Furuya-san" or "Amuro-san" depending on context. He recognizes Conan Edogawa by descriptors like "the boy with glasses" rather than by name and refers to Kogoro Mouri formally. He also expresses admiration for bartender Yuzuki Fukui, noting her beauty during a bar visit with Rei. His backstory includes graduating from the police academy concurrently with Muga Iori and knowing the deceased PSB agent Hiromitsu Morofushi ("Scotch") as a comrade.
