Description
Andre Camel is a 27-year-old special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, bearing agent number 20723. He is an American man with a large, muscular build and a face often described as rough or intimidating, leading colleagues like Jodie Starling to compare him to a gorilla. Despite his imposing appearance, his personality is gentle, kind, and genuinely caring toward his fellow agents, though he is socially awkward and prone to unintentional blunders. Camel is unmarried and has stated he has no family. He enjoys intense physical training, earning him the nickname of a muscle-training maniac from Shuichi Akai, and has developed a strong liking for Japanese cuisine, particularly curry. His Japanese is functional, but he struggles with local dialects and idioms.

A profound sense of guilt defines Camel’s motivation. Two years prior to his first appearance, he was part of an FBI operation to capture Gin of the Black Organization. During a warehouse stakeout, Camel broke cover to warn an elderly man he believed was in danger, but the man was actually a lookout for the Organization. This action exposed Shuichi Akai as an undercover agent, caused the mission to fail, and led indirectly to the death of Akai’s girlfriend, Akemi Miyano. Camel holds himself responsible and is driven by an unwavering loyalty to Akai, willing to undertake extremely dangerous missions to atone for his past mistake.

Within the FBI team operating in Japan under James Black, Camel works closely with Shuichi Akai and Jodie Starling. His relationship with Akai is built on deep trust and mutual respect, with Camel following Akai’s orders without question. He is also a valued ally to Conan Edogawa, though unaware of Conan’s true identity. Camel’s most notable ability is his exceptional skill as a technical driver, capable of high-speed maneuvers, precision crashes, and using his vehicle as a tool or weapon. This driving prowess was crucial in the operation to return the CIA agent Kir (Hidemi Hondou) to the Black Organization: Camel volunteered to drive the van, deliberately crashed it, escaped a staged explosion, and faked his death to help Kir regain her cover. Despite his bravery and loyalty, Camel remains prone to occasional lapses in judgment, such as being tricked into revealing information by Vermouth. Over time, he proves his value as a reliable agent while still grappling with his past.
