Kenji Nomura

Description
Kenji Nomura is a Japanese voice actor born on July 23, 1970, in Okayama Prefecture. He is affiliated with the talent management firm Aksent. Nomura is known for his deep, resonant voice, which often leads to him being cast in roles that require a powerful, intimidating, or large physical presence.

Nomura's journey to becoming a voice actor was influenced by a childhood love of Western films, particularly legal dramas and monster movies, which he often watched with his father. He played baseball during his middle and high school years in Okayama. After moving to Tokyo for university, he secretly enrolled in voice acting classes, initially training at the Hakkyo Voice Actors Studio before formally entering the industry. He made his debut in the late 1990s, with early roles appearing in series such as Kindaichi Case Files and One Piece.

Over a career spanning more than two decades, Nomura has built an extensive and varied filmography. He is frequently cast as powerful, rugged, or villainous characters, a niche well-suited to his natural vocal qualities. Some of his most prominent and recurring roles include Yujiro Hanma in Baki the Grappler, Yammy Llargo in Bleach, Mitsunori Kugayama in Genshiken, and Chairman Harabote in the Kinnikuman: Ultimate Muscle series. He has also voiced significant characters in major franchises such as Toppo in Dragon Ball Super, Santana in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Gareth Landrock in Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, and Kairi Shishigou in Fate/Apocrypha.

In addition to his anime work, Nomura is a prolific voice actor in video games. He is well-known for providing the Japanese voice of Reinhardt in the popular team-based shooter Overwatch. His other notable game roles include Iron Tager in the BlazBlue series, Captain Qwark in the Ratchet & Clank franchise, and Loz in Final Fantasy VII Advent Children. He has also made contributions to the tokusatsu genre, providing voices for monsters and commanders in Super Sentai series such as Kyukyu Sentai GoGo Five and Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger.

Nomura's work also extends extensively to Japanese dubbing of foreign films and television series, where he is the regular voice actor for Hollywood actor Djimon Hounsou. He has also dubbed for actors such as Ice Cube and Idris Elba in various films. In late 2022, following the passing of voice actor Kiyoyuki Yanada, Nomura took over the role of Andre Camel in the long-running anime Detective Conan. He was previously with the agency Aksent for 26 years before moving to Aoni Production in 2020.
