Emma is a young female orc, also referred to as a demi-human, and is the daughter of the chief of the Highland Oak tribe. At the start of her story, she is seventeen years old and is characterized by her kind and nurturing nature, though she also possesses a serious and efficient demeanor, especially when it comes to work and responsibilities. Her appearance is typical of the orcs in her world, featuring a face with porcine features and long platinum blonde hair that she often wears in a braid.

Her initial motivation is survival, as she has been chosen as a sacrifice to appease a powerful entity known as the Shen. This action was a long-standing tradition of her village to ensure its safety, though the true nature of the threat was a deception orchestrated by other creatures. Her fate changes dramatically when she is saved from a two-headed dog by the protagonist, Makoto Misumi. Frightened but grateful, she brings him to her village, where she provides him with food and shelter. It is during this time that she demonstrates her natural talent for magic by teaching Makoto the fundamentals of spellcasting, including the basic "bullet" spell.

In gratitude for her kindness, Makoto confronts and defeats the false threat of the Shen, inadvertently freeing Emma and her people from their cycle of sacrifice. Following this event, Emma and the other residents of the Highland Oak become the first followers of Makoto, pledging themselves to him. Her role in the story evolves significantly from a local villager to a key administrative leader. After the group relocates to a subspace realm known as Asora, Emma is appointed as a supervisor and bureaucratic leader, effectively becoming Makoto’s secretary. In this capacity, she oversees the day-to-day governance and organization of the growing community, a role at which she excels due to her considerable organizational skills.

Emma's key relationships center around Makoto, whom she regards as a messianic figure who saved her and her entire family. She holds him in extremely high esteem, seeing him as close to a divine being for granting them a prosperous new life. Despite her reverence, she is not afraid to be firm with him, often wishing he would act with more authority befitting his powerful status rather than his natural humble and low-stance attitude. Her parents also intend for her to marry Makoto, a prospect he wishes to avoid. Within the hierarchy of Makoto's followers, she commands a great deal of respect. Her position is so authoritative that even the spirited and free-willed Tomoe defers to her instructions. Compared to other high-ranking demi-humans, Emma is noted for her gentle and egalitarian manner, treating others as equals.

Throughout her development, Emma transitions from a helpless girl on the verge of being sacrificed to a competent and respected leader. While she is a capable combat mage, considered one of the most powerful magic users in Asora, her most notable abilities lie in non-combat areas.
