Description
Satoru Suzuki, a 2138 Japanese salaryman who played YGGDRASIL under the name Momonga, finds himself transported into a game-like world upon the game's shutdown. He now inhabits his undead skeletal avatar as the Overlord Ainz Ooal Gown. As guildmaster of Ainz Ooal Gown and ruler of the Great Tomb of Nazarick, the NPCs revere him as the highest of the Forty-One Supreme Beings. He adopts the mantle of the Sorcerer King, founding the Sorcerer Kingdom and recognized as the world's strongest magic caster. Concurrently, he operates as "Momon," an adamantite-ranked dark warrior leading E-Rantel's adventurer group Darkness.
His skeletal form lacks flesh, typically draped in ornate black robes featuring gold and violet accents. A dark red orb floats within his ribcage emanating palpable dread, while faint red glows pulse in his eye sockets, sometimes flaring into flickering flames. A dark halo shimmers behind his skull. The Momon persona wears jet-black armor with purple and gold markings and a red cape, wielding twin greatswords. His undead physiology suppresses emotions, sexual drives, and biological needs like eating or sleeping, though he occasionally feels nostalgia for human sensations like taste.
Personality-wise, he exhibits caution, strategic foresight, and a collector's drive for diverse items and knowledge. Nazarick's safety and prosperity are paramount, leading him to bluff or rely on subordinates like Demiurge and Albedo to project omniscience. Despite ruthless, calculating methods—employing lethal force or experimentation to achieve goals—he shows fierce loyalty and paternal care towards Nazarick's inhabitants, adjusting workloads and rewarding diligence. He views NPCs as family, especially those created by former guildmates, though creations from his "chūnibyō" phase like Pandora's Actor cause embarrassment. Outside Nazarick, he interacts honorably, exemplified by the respected adventurer Momon.
Within Isekai Quartet, transported after pressing a mysterious button, he serves as Class 2's Vice Representative. This setting allows casual interaction, temporarily shedding his overlord persona. He bonds with Tanya von Degurechaff, recognizing her as a fellow former Japanese salaryman, and assists classmates during events like the Sports Festival. Competitive traits emerge, such as attempting to cheat on exams due to expectations, though he stops upon witnessing Aqua's similar attempt. He notes unique traits in others: Subaru's "negative energy" aura and mental resilience, Aqua's goddess-like purification powers (which harm him), and the immunity to his Time Stop spell shared by Aqua, Subaru, and Tanya.
His magical prowess stems from YGGDRASIL's Level 100 system, granting access to Super Tier and high-tier spells. Demonstrated abilities include Creation (weather manipulation), Greater Teleportation, Undeath Army summoning, Body of Effulgent Beryl (damage negation), Nuclear Blast, and Time Stop. He wields skills like Despair Aura (fear induction) and perceives supernatural energies, such as the corruption within Subaru. Key weaknesses involve vulnerability to holy elements, notably Aqua's Turn Undead.
In the film *Another World*, he is among the first transported through a wormhole, arriving in a golem-housing facility. Teaming with Kazuma Satou and the spy Vera Mitrohina, he aids in activating an interworld device by deciphering its "Sign of the Chūnibyō" mechanism—a concept he understands from his past. He battles rogue golems, including a colossal entity fused with Pantagruel, and supports efforts to reopen the wormhole home.
