Known as "The Shapeless One," "Comte de Saint Germain," or simply "Teacher," this ancient and enigmatic vampire served as Queen Faustina's first vassal for the longest duration before renouncing political power, titles, and land to live reclusively in Averoigne. His origins prior to serving the queen remain shrouded in mystery. He typically manifests as a tall, slender figure with pale skin, short blonde hair, and heterochromia: an azure blue left eye mirroring Vanitas's and a purple right eye. His form is ambiguous, frequently shifting. His attire consistently features a long black coat, a white mandarin-collar shirt, a top hat, and a walking stick decorated with six-pointed star charms. Contrarian and observant, he favors solitude over societal influence. He capriciously alters his name and form, reacting violently if addressed incorrectly. Ruthven states all vampires fear him as a monster. He impartially studies humans and vampires as subjects, devoid of inherent bias. His actions often aim to observe reactions under duress, embodying his role as an "observer" of stories. His history includes adopting the Count de Sade and later saving his infant grandson, Louis de Sade, from execution due to the vampire prohibition on twin births. He raised Louis alongside Dominique de Sade and Noé Archiviste, whom he purchased from a slave auction. He manipulated Louis into believing he was a curse-bearer destined for madness, a deceit culminating in Louis contracting a Malnomen and being decapitated by the Teacher, traumatizing Noé and Dominique. He later tasked Noé with investigating the Book of Vanitas in Paris, instructing him to "observe the tale of the people surrounding it" and reach his own conclusions. He appeared in Noé's subconscious during the Bal Masqué arc and physically interacted with Vanitas later. During this encounter, he demanded Vanitas address him as "Comte de Saint Germain" – a name borrowed from an anonymous, eccentric 18th-century alchemist and adventurer – while refusing others' true names, using titles like "Kin of the Blue Moon" or "Hellfire Witch." His abilities include shapeshifting and a suggested connection to the Blue Moon clan, hinted by his azure left eye. He expresses admiration for Luna (Vanitas of the Blue Moon), sharing preoccupations with names and identities. His overarching goal involves calculating paths to "world peace," employing methods like manipulating Mikhail to resurrect Luna, regardless of collateral damage.
