Description
The Teacher, also known as The Shapeless One and currently using the name Comte de Saint Germain, ranks among the oldest and most powerful vampires. He served as Queen Faustina's first and longest-standing vassal but rejected titles and political power, transferring his lands to his adopted son, Count de Sade. He retreated to the rural town of Averoigne, distancing himself from vampire aristocracy.

His appearance frequently shifts due to shapeshifting, though he often manifests as a tall, pale man with short blonde hair and heterochromia—a blue left eye matching Vanitas's eye color and a magenta/purple right eye. He favors a black coat, mandarin-collared white shirt, and top hat, carrying a walking stick adorned with six-pointed star charms that doubles as a weapon.

Detachment and an unrelenting drive for observation define his personality. He views humans and vampires solely as subjects for study, an approach manifesting in manipulative experiments. He deceived his grandson Louis de Sade into believing he was a curse-bearer destined for madness, culminating in Louis's beheading by his hand. Similarly, he acquired the young Archiviste vampire Noé from a slave market, raising him alongside Louis and Dominique de Sade. He instructed Noé to reject prejudice and trained him in combat and gravity manipulation.

He harbors an intense preoccupation with names and identity, violently rejecting epithets like "Shapeless One" and insisting on his chosen aliases. Conversely, he avoids others' true names, referring to Noé and Dominique as "mes chatons" and Vanitas as "Kin of the Blue Moon" or "heir to 'Blue'." This reflects his desire to control identity designation, rejecting external labels while imposing his own.

His history intertwines with key figures. He despises August Ruthven, scratching Ruthven's name from books in his library. He shares a connection with Vanitas of the Blue Moon ("Luna"), admiring their beauty and alchemical ties, and parallels Luna as a parental yet manipulative figure. Both exhibit interests in names and identity, positioning them as narrative foils.

Politically, he wields significant influence despite seclusion. Vampires widely fear him as a monster, and he holds authority in the queen's court. His actions serve his observational goals, such as sending Noé to Paris to investigate the Book of Vanitas's true nature and later appearing in Noé's subconscious to encourage engagement with those surrounding the Book.

His abilities include advanced shapeshifting and combat proficiency with his walking stick. He demonstrates strategic patience, intervening only after extensive observation, such as allowing Louis's curse-bearer transformation to unfold before stepping in.
