Description
Shiva originated as a Hindu deity characterized by a carefree and lazy disposition, primarily interested in dancing to become Nataraja, the Lord of Dance. His childhood friend Rudra shared a dream of reaching Svarga's peak and ruling the pantheon. Shiva initially laughed but committed to supporting Rudra's goal. Together, they waged a prolonged campaign, defeating all 1,115 other Hindu gods, including formidable figures like Varuna, Vishnu, and Brahma. Upon reaching Svarga's summit, Rudra insisted only one could rule. Shiva reluctantly battled Rudra in a decisive clash that generated shockwaves across India, their sweat forming heavy rains. Gaining the upper hand, Shiva attempted to surrender to spare Rudra further harm. Rudra conceded first, declaring Shiva the victor and rightful ruler. Shiva accepted leadership, receiving Rudra's distinctive blue tattoos as a parting memento before Rudra departed. This event marked Shiva's transition from an easygoing youth to the responsible leader of the Hindu pantheon, who later married Parvati, Kali, and Durga and fathered Ganesha.
Centuries later, Shiva participated in divine councils deciding humanity's fate. In the 2000 B.C. council, he supported punishing humanity by destroying Thebes, though Ares claimed jurisdiction. In the 21st-century council, he voted unanimously with other gods for humanity's extermination due to their destructive impact on the planet. Selected as one of 13 god representatives for Ragnarok, a tournament granting humanity a final survival chance, Shiva fought in the fifth round.
Physically, Shiva possesses indigo skin, messy black hair, and five golden eyes—typically with three open. He wears a golden headband and baggy golden trousers with a blue sash. Blue zigzag tattoos, gifted by Rudra, adorn his wrists, fingers, biceps, and neck. His most distinctive feature is four muscular arms, enhancing combat dexterity. Activating Tandava Karma in battle alters his appearance: skin turns dark red, tattoos blacken, and blue flames engulf his limbs and lower body. This state diminishes if limbs sustain severe damage.
Shiva exhibits a proud, reckless, and battle-loving personality. He openly challenges senior gods like Zeus but shows deference to their authority when necessary. His loyalty to companions is profound, particularly toward Rudra, whom he sought to protect during their duel. As a ruler, he trusts his pantheon's capabilities, avoiding unnecessary intervention. Initially dismissive of humans, he viewed Ragnarok as entertainment. His perspective shifted after his match against Raiden Tameemon, where he acknowledged human strength and spirit.
In combat, Shiva ranks among heaven's most formidable brawlers, titled "Strongest God of Destruction" and "Cosmos' Bhairava." His physical prowess includes overpowering deities larger than himself, matching humanity's strongest muscle-bound fighter Raiden Tameemon, and shattering limbs with strikes; reacting to high-velocity attacks, creating afterimages via the Hidden Treasure of Svarga technique, and blitzing opponents like Raiden; and withstanding brutal assaults from amplified Raiden, including skull collisions and limb loss, while remaining conscious. His techniques revolve around rhythmic combat: the Hidden Treasure of Svarga war dance accelerates his movements unpredictably, generating heat that burns opponents; Krittivasa is an aerial axe kick igniting flames to slice and cauterize foes; Tandava Karma, activated by gripping his heart to accelerate his heartbeat, stimulates his atman (soul), engulfing his body in intense blue flames. This amplifies all attributes but risks self-immolation over time. Its pinnacle technique, Deva Loka, is a searing kick that bisected Raiden's arm mid-strike.
During Ragnarok's fifth round against Raiden Tameemon, Shiva initially underestimated his opponent. Raiden's unleashed muscles and sumo techniques pressured Shiva, breaking three arms. Witnessing Rudra and the Hindu gods' support reignited Shiva's resolve. He activated Tandava Karma, sacrificing two more arms to survive Raiden's Yatagarasu strike. Reunited with Rudra after millennia, Shiva declared his duty as Svarga's peak. He then incinerated Raiden's arm with Deva Loka, securing victory. Though physically broken, Shiva admitted the match was his finest, conceding humans were formidable. Post-battle, he recovered in the infirmary while observing subsequent rounds, eventually regrowing his limbs.
In the spin-off *Record of Ragnarok: Forbidden Legend - Apocalypse of the Gods*, Shiva appears during the "Apocalypse Tournament," a contest determining Zeus's final fighter for Ragnarok. He supports fellow Hindu god Indra, expressing unwavering confidence in his strength despite external concerns.
