Description
Kanade is a player of the online game NewWorld Online who joins the main cast after the first in-game event. He encounters Maple and her friends during the second event and later accepts Maple's invitation to become a member of her guild, Maple Tree. In terms of appearance, Kanade is a young boy of short stature, standing at 151 centimeters. He has an androgynous look with a slender build, which sometimes leads to him being mistaken for a girl. He has bright, curly red hair and matching red eyes, giving him a somewhat mysterious or elusive aura.

Kanade's personality is defined by his quiet, clever, and highly analytical nature. He possesses a prodigious memory that far exceeds normal limits, capable of memorizing the shapes of thousands of puzzle pieces without difficulty. While this intelligence allows him to understand others easily, it can ironically make social interactions awkward for him, as he recalls even minute details and tends to overthink situations. He is described as sensitive and sometimes indecisive, with an irregular schedule for eating and sleeping. Kanade has a strong fascination with puzzles, mysteries, and any task that challenges his mind, often devoting entire days to completing something he finds interesting. Rather than direct confrontation, he prefers observation, reflection, and strategic thinking. He finds unique joy in interacting with Maple, whose spontaneous, innocent, and unpredictable behavior constantly defies his intellect and expectations.

Kanade's primary motivation in the game revolves around intellectual curiosity and the acquisition of knowledge rather than conventional level grinding or stat boosting. He frequents the libraries on every floor of the game to read any book he can find, gathering unique information that other players might overlook. This drive for knowledge directly led him to clear a challenging floating island library during the second event, a task the game's administrators did not intend for players to complete. Finishing this puzzle took him four days but rewarded him with a unique, cube-shaped staff that defines his role in the story.

Within the guild Maple Tree, Kanade serves as a key strategic supporter and is considered an abnormal or unique type of player, a classification he shares with the skilled player Sally. His role is not to be a front-line fighter but to use his intellect and versatile skill set to control the flow of battle and provide crucial assistance to his party members. He is one of the guild's best tacticians, capable of defeating other players and guilds on his own during events by relying on careful planning. He is also a friend to fellow guild members like Marx and Drag, with whom he has fought and shared private information.

Kanade's relationships within the guild are significant. He resonates well with Maple, quickly becoming friends with her and enjoying her company, such as during a seaside outing in the second event. Despite Maple repeatedly challenging him to Othello, Kanade remains undefeated. He also has a connection with Sally, viewing her as a kind of intellectual rival in strategic thinking. A crucial relationship is with his tamed monster, a mirror slime he named Sou. Kanade obtained Sou by completing a specific quest line that required tracking the slime and fulfilling certain magic-casting requirements, demonstrating his technical approach to the game. The synergy between Kanade and Sou is a major part of his combat ability. Sou can mimic Kanade, his allies, or other monsters. When mimicking Kanade, Sou can copy the Akashic Records ability, allowing it to use stored skills without consuming the original.

Kanade's development throughout the story is closely tied to the evolution of his unique cube-shaped staff, which grants him the Akashic Records skill. This skill randomly provides him with nine new skills each day, divided evenly between combat, production, and other categories. These skills are fixed at a medium or level five strength but disappear after twenty-four hours. While random and luck-based, this ability allows Kanade to combine skills for powerful, terrifying effects. His staff can be enhanced by clearing special libraries on each floor. On the second floor, he added the Magic Library, which allows him to store magic and skills by using MP to turn them into disposable Magic Books on a dedicated bookshelf. On the eighth floor, following clues found in the guild home basement, he added the Skill Library, which stores skills that do not use MP as Skill Books. These enhancements allow him to prepare powerful combinations in advance and use almost any skill without an additional cost, though each archived skill is consumed upon use and must be reacquired.

Notable abilities beyond his staff include his extraordinary memory and his reliance on luck, as he has expressed confidence in being very fortunate. This luck has helped him obtain several rare and powerful skills through the Akashic Records. His tamed monster, Sou, provides immense tactical value. The mirror slime can split into multiple copies, making it useful for deception and as a decoy. More importantly, Sou can mimic Kanade and, in that form, copy the Akashic Records ability. This allows Sou to use skills stored in Kanade's library at half the original power without consuming the stored skills, effectively doubling his arsenal and making him exceptionally versatile in combat.
