Description
Tomoe Koga arrives at Minegahara High as a 15-16-year-old first-year student, standing 152 cm tall with fluffy beige-blonde hair cut in a bob. A distinctive T-shaped hair barrette adorns the left side. Originally from Fukuoka, she moved due to her father's job relocation. Consciously adopting standard Japanese speech and fashionable attire to fit in, her Hakata dialect emerges when excited or embarrassed.
Her defining trait is an intense desire for social acceptance, fueled by a deep fear of being disliked or ostracized. This manifests in constant phone use to maintain connections and anxiety over her reputation. This insecurity stems from her middle school past in Fukuoka, where she belonged to an unnoticed group before reinventing herself in Tokyo. Her Adolescence Syndrome, "Laplace's Little Devil," unconsciously rewinds time—specifically June 27—to avoid rejecting a classmate's confession, fearing backlash from her friend group. This looping ability creates simulated futures, trapping Sakuta Azusagawa until they collaborate to resolve it.
Their relationship begins when Tomoe mistakes Sakuta for a threat and kicks him. After clearing the misunderstanding, she demands he return the kick to "even the score," leading to their arrest and an unconventional friendship. To navigate social pressures, Tomoe enlists Sakuta in a fake relationship, claiming they date to deter the pursuing classmate. This arrangement involves staged dates like an aquarium visit and a beach outing. During these, she compares herself to a penguin following the group and reveals her past insecurities. Genuine feelings for Sakuta develop, causing repeated loops of July 18 as she struggles to accept his rejection. Her eventual confession and acceptance of his friendship allow time to reset to June 27, where she confidently rejects the classmate.
Following this, Tomoe matures significantly, learning to prioritize self-acceptance over peer validation and thanking Sakuta for helping her "grow as a person." By her third year, she grows out her hair, befriends Kaede Azusagawa at their shared workplace (Benny's family restaurant), and supports Sakuta during personal challenges. She later gains admission to Yokohama City University via recommendation, appearing as a 20-year-old student in later timelines.
Tomoe maintains a cheerful, justice-driven personality with occasional clumsiness. She exhibits unique ethics, demanding reciprocal punishment after misunderstandings, and openly discusses body image concerns, particularly sensitivity about her height and weight. Her friendships extend to Sara Himeji, Nana Yoneyama, and Rena Kashiba, though the latter's influence initially exacerbates her social anxieties.
