Description
Hakuro is the chief instructor for the Jura Tempest Federation's military and holds an executive position. Originally an ogre, he lived over 300 years despite a typical 100-year lifespan, later evolving into a kijin after being named by Rimuru Tempest. This evolution granted him an extended lifespan and restored his physical prime. His background includes being the grandson of master swordsman Byakuya Araki and serving as the martial instructor for the Ogre Tribe's royal guard. Centuries ago, he trained Gazel Dwargo, who became king of the Armed Nation of Dwargon.
As an ogre, Hakuro appeared as a short elderly figure with silver hair, ivory-like horns, and skin bearing a subtle silver tint, dressed in layered robes, a pale brown scarf covering his mouth, and carrying a plain Japanese sword. After evolution, his appearance shifted to that of a middle-aged man with sharper features, a silver goatee, diminished horns, and loss of the silver skin tint. He adopted simpler clothing, often including a white overcoat or scarf.
Hakuro maintains a calm demeanor but reacts sharply to being called "old man," often threatening increased training or retribution. He emphasizes teaching combat arts to counter monsters' overreliance on innate skills. His analytical nature allows quick identification of combat techniques and lethal intent. After discovering his daughter Momiji, he becomes openly doting and overprotective, actively encouraging her relationship with Benimaru.
In combat, Hakuro possesses skills like **Martial Master**, **Heaven Gaze**, **Thought Acceleration**, **Ultra Acceleration**, **Foresight**, and **Steel Strength**. He instructs Rimuru in swordsmanship to reduce dependency on raw power and mentors subordinates like Gobta despite occasional exasperation at Gobta's laziness, maintaining a strict regimen for the Goblin Riders.
Key relationships include:
- **Rimuru Tempest**: Initially antagonistic due to misunderstandings about his village's destruction, Hakuro later swears allegiance and deepens his loyalty, acting as Rimuru's swordsmanship instructor and advisor.
- **Benimaru**: Known since Benimaru's childhood, Hakuro trained him in combat and addresses him lightheartedly as "Young Master." Their bond strengthens when Benimaru marries Momiji.
- **Shion**: Hakuro trained Shion since her youth, maintaining amicable ties while avoiding her notoriously dangerous cooking.
- **Gobta**: Despite occasional frustration, their student-mentor dynamic evolves into a familial relationship.
Within "The Slime Diaries," Hakuro's role includes comedic interactions during training sessions. His intense glare and casual demeanor while defeating trainees like Gobta and Gabiru produce humorous reactions, though he does not intentionally seek laughter.
