Shingo Takasugi is a Japanese defender who began his soccer career in elementary school as part of Shutetsu, the top team in Nankatsu city. He served as sweeper for Shutetsu Elementary and was regarded as their finest defender. Later, he joined Nankatsu SC and helped secure victory in the 6th Yomiuri Land tournament. Acting on a suggestion from Genzo Wakabayashi to his former Shutetsu teammates, Takasugi enrolled at Nankatsu Middle School and earned a regular spot on their soccer team in his second year. During the national middle school tournament, he displayed sharp vision by being the only player to detect Tsubasa Ozora's leg injury in the match against Azumaichi. In the final, alongside Ryo Ishizaki, he played a key role in twice stopping Kojiro Hyuga's Tiger Shot while Tsubasa recovered. Takasugi was chosen for the Japan Jr. Youth team among the best players of the middle school tournament. Although he started as an initial member, he remained on the bench throughout the tournament. In the World Youth narrative, he was part of the All Japan Youth team and participated in all matches during the first round of the Asian preliminaries. Later, as a professional, he signed with J-League club Sanfrecce Hiroshima. In the Road to 2002 narrative, he delivered a decisive pass that led his club to defeat Shimizu S-Pulse. The character appears in multiple game installments. In *Captain Tsubasa II: Super Striker*, he was part of Nankatsu High School and later joined the All Japan Youth for the World Youth. In *Captain Tsubasa III: Kotei no Chosen*, he was a substitute for the All Japan Youth in the Universal Youth tournament. In *Captain Tsubasa IV: Pro no Rival-tachi*, he played for Nankatsu Wings, and in *Captain Tsubasa V: Hasha no Shogo Campione*, he was a regular defender for Nankatsu SC and a substitute for Japan in the Asian Cup and World Tournament. In *Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions*, he is portrayed as a grand-framed defender for Nankatsu Middle School and forms the "Shutetsu Trio" with midfielder Mamoru Izawa and forwards Teppei Kisugi and Hajime Taki. His career includes participation with Japan's U-15, U-19, and U-23 teams, as well as Nankatsu High School, Nankatsu Middle School, Nankatsu SC, and Shutetsu ES. He measured 168 cm and 63 kg in elementary school, 173 cm and 67 kg in middle school, and 181 cm and 80 kg in high school. In some international adaptations, the character is known as Bob Denver in certain European countries, and Victor Denver or Ulises in Latin American dubs. As the narrative advanced to international competitions, his on-field appearances grew less frequent. He was consistently selected for the national team but often benched during major tournaments and missed selection for the Olympic team.
