Description
Originating from the Forest of Lymilua where her family guarded the sacred tree, Ryuu Lion grew disillusioned by elven elitism and mistreatment of other races, prompting her departure at age eleven. Rescued in Orario by Alise Lovell from assailants, she joined the Astraea Familia. There, her exceptional combat prowess and relentless clashes against the Evilus organization earned her the alias "Gale" and rapid advancement to Level 4, achieving approximately one level per year accelerated by innate talent and rigorous pre-falna training.
The Astraea Familia faced near annihilation during a Dungeon expedition to the 37th Floor when the Rudra Familia triggered a trap unleashing the Juggernaut monster; Ryuu and Jura emerged as sole survivors. Consumed by vengeance, Ryuu spent two months systematically hunting down those linked to the Rudra Familia and Evilus through assassinations and sabotage. This campaign branded her a fugitive, revoked her adventurer status, and left her severely injured after a confrontation with bounty hunters Chloe Rollo and Lunoire. Collapsing in an alley, she was rescued by Syr Flover. Nursed back to health by Mia Grand, Ryuu began working at the Hostess of Fertility tavern under a new identity, concealing her distinctive blonde hair with green dye.
At the tavern, Ryuu mentored Bell Cranel, recognizing him as the third person whose touch didn't distress her – fulfilling advice from Alise about not releasing such connections. Their bond deepened during a desperate struggle for survival on the Dungeon's 37th Floor. Ryuu confronted her trauma while guiding Bell through monstrous threats and a rematch against the Juggernaut, culminating in her developing romantic feelings for Bell. She publicly confessed these feelings during the Freya Familia War Game. Following the conflict, she joined Hestia Familia under the name Ryuu Astraea, reclaimed her natural golden-blonde hair, and advanced to Level 6.
Physically, Ryuu possesses sky-blue eyes, snow-white skin, a slender build, and is frequently described as fairy-like. Her hair, initially dyed green, reverted to natural golden-blonde. She typically wears the Hostess of Fertility's green maid outfit with white apron and headband, or her adventurer attire: a floral hood, sleeveless top, bloomers, gloves, and dual swords.
Ryuu's personality blends stoicism with profound loyalty. Outwardly reserved and serious, especially toward strangers, she demonstrates deep care for allies and willingly risks herself to protect others, a strong moral compass acknowledged by Alise and Goddess Astraea. She exhibits clumsiness in non-combat situations like cooking or controlling her strength during training, earning the nickname "clumsy elf." Internal conflicts include shame over her violent past and adherence to elven traditions concerning physical contact and romance.
As a combatant, Ryuu is a versatile magic swordsman specializing in concurrent chanting—casting spells during complex maneuvers. Her signature magic includes the offensive wind-and-light spell "Luminous Wind" and the healing spell "Noah Heal." After reaching Level 6, she acquired "Astraea Record," enabling her to channel the magic of her deceased Familia members. Her high-speed evasion and precision strikes with a wooden sword or dual kodachi integrate Far Eastern techniques learned from Kaguya. Statistically, she excels in Dexterity, Agility, and Magic, utilizing skills like "Mind Load" (enhancing attack power via mana infusion) and "Aero Mana" (boosting damage based on movement speed).
Key relationships encompass her mentorship and romantic bond with Bell Cranel; her life debt to Syr Flover; enduring respect for former Familia members Alise, Kaguya, and Lyra; and her ongoing friendship with Astraea despite initially exiling the goddess to conceal her vengeance quest. She also maintains alliances with Hostess of Fertility colleagues and combatants like Aisha Belka.
In the Arrow of the Orion film, Ryuu assists Hermes Familia near the Elsus Ruin, rescuing Bell's group after they crash-land during a mission against the Antares monster, reinforcing her role as a reliable ally beyond Orario.
