Bell Cranel is a white-haired, red-eyed adolescent adventurer whose appearance often draws comparisons to a rabbit. Born to a member of the Zeus Familia and Meteria of the Hera Familia following their defeat by the One-Eyed Black Dragon, his dying mother entrusted him to Zeus. Zeus raised him as his grandson in a rural mountain village. Immersed in heroic tales during his upbringing, Bell formed a deep aspiration to become a hero himself. This dream solidified after a near-fatal encounter with a goblin, an event where his grandfather intervened and saved him. After his grandfather's presumed death, Bell journeyed to Orario. Rejected by multiple Familias, he eventually joined the newly formed Hestia Familia as its inaugural member. Initially, he sought adventure to attract romantic partners, influenced by his grandfather's advice. However, his motivation transformed after Ais Wallenstein of the Loki Familia rescued him from a minotaur. This incident ignited Bell's intense admiration for Ais. Overhearing ridicule about his weakness from Loki Familia members, particularly Bete, instilled a deep fear of minotaurs and reinforced his resolve to grow stronger. Bell possesses the unique skill Liaris Freese, which accelerates his growth based on the intensity of his feelings, primarily his desire to stand beside Ais. This skill grants immunity to charm effects and allows him to exceed normal stat limits. His rapid level progression—from Level 1 to Level 5 within months—earned him aliases like "Little Rookie" (Level 2) and "Rabbit Foot" (Level 4). Though initially deemed talentless, his accumulated stats frequently surpass his level; as a new Level 4, his agility rivaled top-tier adventurers of that rank. His combat abilities include the skill Argonaut, gained at Level 2, which charges attacks over time for explosive power. Argonaut later evolved, enabling "dual charging" (simultaneously charging two actions) and techniques like Argo Vesta, combining his Firebolt magic with the Hestia Knife. Additional skills encompass Luck (enhancing resource discovery and evasion), Abnormal Resistance (nullifying poisons), and Ox Slayer (boosting abilities against bull-type monsters). Development Abilities, such as Escape (increasing retreat speed), were acquired through experience. Bell exhibits profound compassion, frequently risking himself to aid others. This trait draws affection from characters like Hestia, Ryū Lion, and Haruhime, though his low self-esteem leaves him largely oblivious to their feelings. He forgave Liliruca Arde and Naaza after they deceived him, actions that later earned him their loyalty. His trust extends to defending Ryū against murder accusations despite contrary evidence. His encounter with the sentient Xenos monsters, particularly Wiene, caused moral conflict regarding killing monsters. Advised by Fels, Bell adopted a "hypocrite" philosophy: continuing to fight while protecting those deserving salvation. Protecting the Xenos branded him a traitor in Orario but solidified alliances with beings like Lyd and Gros. After losing to the minotaur Asterius and reaching Level 4, Bell matured. He focused on fostering coexistence between humans and Xenos and defeating Asterius. His demeanor grew calmer, and he approached dungeon exploration with increased seriousness. Post-Level 4, Bell faced Syr's confession—revealed as the goddess Freya—and rejected her despite guilt over her subsequent manipulation of Orario. This event made him wary of rejecting others' feelings. He later protested Finn Deimne's marriage proposal to Lili, unaware of her feelings for him. His physical prowess continued to grow; even at low Level 5 with F-rank stats, he matched low Level 6 opponents like Ais in training.
