TV-Series
Description
Cabaji, known as Cabaji the Acrobat, serves as the chief of staff for the Buggy Pirates and is a prominent member of the subsequent Buggy and Alvida Alliance, later becoming part of Cross Guild. He is a tall, slender man with a distinctive hairstyle that covers half of his face, which is black in the manga but depicted as light and dark green in the anime. He typically conceals the lower portion of his face with a large blue and white checkered scarf and wears a sleeveless long coat, often accompanied by a unicycle that he uses in combat.
In terms of personality, Cabaji presents himself as a serious, mysterious, and elegant individual. He is a proficient fighter but is not above fighting dirty, as he will readily exploit an opponent's weaknesses, such as striking at existing wounds, without a second thought. Despite his cunning and self-serving nature, which includes using his own ally, the lion Richie, as a human shield to avoid getting dirty, he possesses immense loyalty to his captain, Buggy. He has been shown grieving deeply for Buggy when believing him to be dead and expressing great joy upon his captain's return. However, his loyalty has shown signs of wavering later on, as he nonchalantly agreed to follow Crocodile when Buggy's leadership of Cross Guild was threatened. Cabaji maintains a constant rivalry with his crewmate Mohji, as both compete to prove themselves as the top subordinate in the crew.
Cabaji's role in the story is primarily as an antagonist in the East Blue Saga, specifically during the Orange Town Arc as the tertiary antagonist, and later as a minor antagonist in the Loguetown Arc. When the Straw Hat Pirates clashed with the Buggy Pirates in Orange Town, Cabaji was forced to use Richie as a shield against a rebounding Buggy Ball. He then engaged in a duel with Roronoa Zoro. Cabaji fought using his dirty tactics, including breathing flames and striking Zoro's injuries, while riding his unicycle. However, he was ultimately defeated by Zoro's "Oni Giri" technique, which cut open his chest. In Loguetown, Cabajo briefly pinned down Monkey D. Luffy on the execution platform but did not get his desired rematch with Zoro when the event was interrupted by a lightning strike. Following his captain's defeat and later disappearance, Cabaji and Mohji fought for the title of next captain, only to both be knocked out by Richie the lion.
As a swordsman, Cabaji's primary form of combat is a unique style he calls Carnival Tricks, which combines acrobatics with swordplay. He incorporates various circus props and feats into his fighting, most notably a unicycle, which he uses to glide to great heights and perform aerial maneuvers. His other notable abilities include breathing fire from his mouth, using razor-sharp spinning tops as projectiles, and sword swallowing. He has also demonstrated significant physical strength, such as being able to lift the large lion Richie with one arm.
