Description
Rika Kawai stands 4'11" with dyed blonde hair featuring a distinctive pink streak, brown eyebrows and roots hinting at her natural color, and blue eyes. She typically wears a bright red jacket with dark purple sleeves and patches, pale blue jeans, a black button-up shirt, sneakers, a belt, and a black choker. Scars from past self-harm mark her arms.

Personality-wise, she blends bluntness and outward arrogance with deep-seated guilt and vulnerability. She frequently deploys judgmental or rude remarks as a defense mechanism, especially about appearances, masking intense self-loathing and regret. Initially dismissive—ignoring questions about her scars or past—she gradually forges stronger bonds, revealing protective and humorous sides. Her emotional state fluctuates significantly, symbolized through her dream-world flower field: orange lilies reflect hatred or revenge, while white lilies indicate purity or innocence. Pink thistles signify resilience alongside pain and internal conflict.

Her background centers on familial abandonment and trauma. Her father departed early, leaving only a memory of his voice and the toxic advice that "a pretty girl doesn’t need a wallet, someone else will always pay for her," which she internalized. She lives with her mother, whom she despises, accusing her of lying about her father's identity and viewing her as "pathetic" for turning to alcohol. This dynamic is cyclical: Rika's contempt worsens her mother's drinking, while the mother's neglect fuels Rika's belief she was an unwanted "mistake."

As a former junior idol in All-Out Kiss, Rika attracted a devoted fan, Chiemi, who shoplifted for gift/event funds. Discovering this, Rika cruelly rejected Chiemi, calling her a "fatty" and demanding she never return, hoping to stop the thefts. Chiemi later died from self-starvation, implied suicide. Blaming herself, Rika began self-harming and quit idol work, falsely citing the other members as "too ugly." Though she later mocks Chiemi’s statue as "ugly and greasy," this reflects denial; she feels profound responsibility for Chiemi’s death and fights in the dream world primarily to resurrect her.

Her abilities include dual-wielding hybrid blades resembling scissors and box cutters—linked to her self-harm history—functioning as swords, boomerangs, or shields. She also uses a pomander that hatches Mannen, a tortoise-like combat companion.

Across her development, Rika evolves from isolation to forging genuine friendships. She risks her life saving others in the dream world, notably rescuing Ai during a joint mission. Confrontations about her mother’s struggles and Chiemi’s death lead to reduced self-harm and attempts to reconcile with her mother, acknowledging her flaws while rejecting her father’s toxic philosophy. She remains protective of her friends, joining efforts against threats like Frill despite the risks.
