Description
Born Krylancelo Finrandi in an orphanage alongside Azalie Caith Sith and Leticia MacCready, Orphen was recruited into the Tower of Fang sorcery academy. Trained by master assassin Childman Powderfield, he excelled as a prodigy and became one of thirteen Court Sorcerer candidates. His world fractured when Azalie, his foster sister, transformed into the monstrous Bloody August during a forbidden experiment with the Sword of Baltanders. Disillusioned by the Tower’s cover-up—declaring Azalie dead and staging a false funeral—he abandoned his name and identity, adopting "Orphen" to sever ties with the institution. He dedicated himself to reversing Azalie’s curse, departing the Tower for a five-year quest across Kiesalhima.

Orphen balances a sarcastic, gruff exterior with a fiercely protective core. Impatient and short-tempered—especially with comic-relief figures like the dwarf brothers Volkan and Dortin—he masks his cynicism and reluctance to form attachments, born of past betrayals. Yet he consistently defends innocents and avoids lethal force unless unavoidable. His loyalty to Azalie remains paramount, though it strains under her later manipulative actions. As mentor to apprentice Majic Lin, he nurtures the young sorcerer’s potential behind abrasive humor. His bickering bond with Claiomh Everlasting evolves into mutual reliance, culminating in marriage and family life.

In combat, Orphen merges elite black sorcery with physical mastery. Trained as a "Stabber" assassin, he inherited Childman’s title "Successor of Razor Edge," excelling in close-quarters combat, dagger techniques, and mental defenses. His sorcery cancels spells from multiple foes and challenges dragon-level threats like Bloody August or Deep Dragons. Signature abilities include elemental manipulation (e.g., "Sword of Light") and white-magic suppression. Heightened senses, including acute smell from training, augment his skills. He rejects the Tower’s ruthlessness, using lethal force only when cornered.

His arc begins hunting Azalie alongside allies Claiomh and Majic. Early exploits involve reclaiming the Sword of Baltanders and confronting mentors like Childman—initially an antagonist later revealed to share Orphen’s goal of saving Azalie. Key events include Azalie possessing Childman’s body, Orphen merging temporarily with the Deep Dragon Leki to harness dark magic, and briefly wielding the Demon King Swedenborge’s power. Returning to the Tower to expose conspiracies, he clashes with elder Whurl Karlen, resulting in formal banishment. Post-exile, he marries Claiomh, fathers three daughters, and relocates to the Hara continent, founding the Swedenborge School of Sorcery. By age 43, he serves as headmaster, with Majic mentoring his eldest daughter.

Non-canonical expansions like the "Scion of Sorcery" game depict alternate adventures involving time travel and simulated realities, separate from his core trajectory.
