Description
Hawk is a talking pig serving as Meliodas's companion and the cleaner of the Boar Hat tavern, consuming leftovers and waste. His body resembles a Gloucestershire Old Spots pig, featuring a clover-shaped birthmark on his rump and an earring labeled "Star Boar" on his left ear; this earring is later replaced by Balor's Magical Eye, capable of measuring power levels. Hawk blends pridefulness with frequent annoyance, particularly directed at Meliodas's antics or Elizabeth's naivety. He fiercely protects friends yet often reacts fearfully against stronger opponents.
Originating in Purgatory under the name Mild, Hawk is the brother of Wild. The Demon King abducted him as an infant to surveil Meliodas through his eyes. Ten years before the main story, Hawk discovered an unconscious Meliodas in a forest and brought him to safety, forging a partnership that led to establishing the Boar Hat tavern. This connection makes Hawk a living portal between the human world and Purgatory, allowing entities like the Demon King to observe the living realm. Merlin later exploits this trait to transport Ban to Purgatory.
Hawk's primary ability, Transpork, lets him absorb traits and powers of magical creatures he consumes. Examples include:
- Tyrant Dragon form (fire breath and limited flight after eating dragon guts)
- Sand Crawler form (terrain swimming after consuming an Earth Crawler)
- Red Demon form (darkness manipulation and flight, though speech becomes unintelligible)
- Sky Manta form (sustained flight, activated via Merlin's Monster Block)
- Gray Demon form (rot-inducing Dark Snow attack)
These transformations fade once the consumed matter is expelled. Hawk also employs combat techniques like Super Pork-Loin Illusion (high-speed charging with clones), Rolling Ham Attack (somersault body slam), and Forget Meal (stealth ambush). His heightened sense of smell detects objects up to 1.2 miles away, aiding in tracking enemies or leftovers.
In *Prisoners of the Sky*, Hawk accompanies Meliodas to the Sky Palace seeking "sky fish." Residents mistake him for a deity called "Oshiro-sama," inflating his ego. He battles the Six Knights of Black, utilizing his Sky Manta form for aerial mobility.
Hawk shares complex relationships:
- Meliodas: They frequently bicker yet maintain deep mutual respect forged through their long partnership.
- Elizabeth: He acts as a protective figure, intervening when Meliodas harasses her.
- Hawk Mama: He reveres his mother, often calling for her aid when endangered and aspiring to match her strength.
- Ban: Initially annoyed by Ban's reaction to his speech, they develop camaraderie, with Ban addressing him as "Master."
- Other Deadly Sins: He maintains friendly but strained ties, tolerating King's teasing nicknames and distrusting Gowther's lack of empathy.
Trivia notes Hawk's original translated name "Hork" (referencing vomit cleanup duties), his aversion to beef, and his dream of becoming an "invincible pig." His creator noted parallels between Transpork and Kirby's ability, though Hawk focuses solely on consuming magical entities.
