Description
Zaboera commands the Mystic Legion as Mystic Bishop within Hadlar and Vearn's Dark Army. This approximately 890-year-old darkling possesses a diminutive stature, sallow skin, large pointed ears, and a long white beard reaching his ankles. He wears dark robes bearing Vearn's insignia on the collar and wields a distinctive spider-motif staff topped with a red gem. A memory clip on his forehead stores his knowledge and experiences, a trait shared with his son Zamza, a lieutenant in the Mystic Legion.

His personality is defined by extreme cowardice, ruthlessness, and opportunism. Zaboera avoids direct combat, relying instead on manipulation, deceit, and unethical tactics to ensure victory. He views all individuals—including his son, allies, and minions—as expendable tools for personal advancement. This absolute lack of loyalty or morality earns him universal distrust within the Dark Army, with commanders like Hyunckel and Mystvearn openly despising him. His arrogance frequently leads him to underestimate opponents, a critical strategic flaw.

As a sorcerer, Zaboera wields extensive magical knowledge, initially surpassing even Hadlar. His repertoire includes high-level spells such as Thwack (instant death), Hexcitation (spell absorption), and paralysis-inducing lightning lassos. He secretes toxins from his claws capable of poisoning, paralyzing, or brainwashing victims. His most infamous creation is the regenerating chimera known as the Superior Being. He later develops the Superior Zombie, a corpse-based organic battlesuit he pilots for enhanced strength and speed, though it nullifies his spellcasting abilities.

Zaboera's schemes orchestrate key events. He kidnaps Dai's grandfather Brass, circumventing Avan's purification spell to brainwash him into a weapon against Dai. He manipulates Crocodine into employing dishonorable tactics, a plan foiled when Popp frees Brass. He suggests enchanting Maam to control Hyunckel, leading Hyunckel to reject the plan and assault him. His experimentation culminates in transforming Hadlar into a Superior Being using data extracted from his son Zamza, who dies in the process. Zaboera exhibits no remorse for Zamza's death, focusing solely on currying Vearn's favor.

After Hadlar imprisons him for insubordination, Zaboera escapes using a Black Core explosion implanted by Vearn. He later betrays Hadlar to save Vearn, earning a promotion. During the final battle, Mystvearn abandons him, citing his habitual cowardice. Defeated and isolated, Zaboera begs for mercy from his enemies but is killed by Crocodine while attempting a final deception.

Beyond the main series, Zaboera appears in *Dragon Quest Tact* as an A-rank demon unit. His abilities include "Mystic Legion Support" (triggering ally-based attacks) and "Venom Chain Ambush" (countering enemy strikes). His gameplay role emphasizes spell potency boosts and debuff support, with vulnerabilities to Crack, Bang, and Confusion-based attacks.
