Description
Nova, son of Ringaia's General Bowson, serves as captain of the Ringaia army and holds the title "Hero of the North." He possesses light blue hair with darker roots and favors white winter clothing accented by a dark blue tunic and shoulder pads. Initially marked by stubbornness and arrogance, Nova dismissed assistance and underestimated Dai, believing he alone could defeat the Orichalcum Royal Guards at Sababa Port. His overconfidence led to defeat when his signature "Northern Granblade" failed against Pawn Hym, and Queen Albinass struck him down with "Needle Thousand."
In that battle, his "Kacrackle" spell, aimed at freezing the guards, was reflected by Sigma's "Mirror of Shahal," nearly causing catastrophe. Captured and frozen by Hym for execution, Nova was saved by Hyunckel's intervention. This defeat shattered his arrogance, compelling him to apologize to Dai and join the group's efforts. He later aided the fight by channeling his aura through Popp's broken rod to spear Hym's hand. Maam and Leona subsequently chastised him for his recklessness, which left him injured and sidelined.
Before the final confrontation with Vearn, Nova assisted Dai in developing new techniques, including "Avan Strash Arrow" and its enhanced form "Avan Strash Cross." During the Halo Arc, he battled underworld monsters and Hyper Zaboera. In a desperate moment against Zaboera, Nova prepared a sacrificial attack using his life force to empower his aura blade, only for Lon Berk to intervene. Berk commended his courage but sacrificed his own hands instead; Nova pledged to serve as Berk's hands for future blacksmithing. In the Flash of Light Arc, Nova and Berk used "Crack" to freeze the Black Core in Carl Tower, and Nova employed "Zoom" to travel to Ringaia and destroy its Black Core. By the series' end, he works as Lon Berk's apprentice blacksmith.
Nova's combat prowess centers on his "Aura Blade," capable of cutting orichalcum, with "Northern Granblade" as his key technique. He wields ice-based spells like "Crack" and utility spells such as "Zoom." Spin-off media like *Dragon Quest of the Stars* featured his equipment "Ringaia Grand Blade," dealing Bang-type damage. In *Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai: A Hero's Bonds*, Nova is a playable character specializing in physical ice skills, with traits enhancing his ice damage, defense, and counterattack capabilities.
