Description
Piodan, also known as Syrdon, serves as a member of the Inquisition within the Conversos, a group founded and led by General Torque. His past includes imprisonment in Bôme's maximum-security facility for powerful sorcerers. During a rebellion led by the Domitors' leader, Syrdon and three other infected individuals resisted the uprising, killing fellow prisoners. This action earned them a pardon from Torque, who incorporated them into the Inquisition as Conversos.
Physically, Piodan possesses loose hair adorned with small horns similar to Seth's and bears a cross-shaped scar on his forehead. He typically wears a large black tunic and cloak, often hooded. In his youth, his attire consisted of brown trousers, a light blue vest, a small cloak, a messenger bag, and feathered gloves. Like Seth and other infected individuals such as Diabal and Triton, he can wield Fantasia barehanded.
His personality exhibits manipulation and opportunism. Piodan presents a benevolent facade, claiming to seek Seth as a long-lost brother, yet harbors darker motives. He trained and monitored Seth, Diabal, and Triton, ultimately betraying Diabal and Triton to the Inquisition for torture when their curiosity endangered his plans. This resulted in severe physical and mental trauma for Diabal, who developed an intense fear of Piodan; Triton's fate remains uncertain, with Diabal implying he may not have survived.
Piodan's abilities derive from his infection, granting resistance to Nemeses and the capacity to wield Fantasia without tools. His power level is consistently implied to be high. He possesses shamanic vision, extensive sorcery experience, and can effortlessly kill multiple Nemeses without actively channeling Fantasia.
His relationships center on exploitation. He awakens a destructive black force within Seth during their first meeting in Rumble Town, causing Seth to lose control over his actions; this force later haunts Seth through dreams, prompting Seth to demand Piodan never return. Piodan maintains a privileged position under Torque within the Inquisition, though their dynamic's exact nature is unspecified. He also has ties to the Thaumaturges, evidenced by his association with fellow Converso Adriel.
Across key story arcs, Piodan drives conflict. In Rumble Town, he saves Seth from a fall, reveals his identity, and convinces Seth to remove his facial bandages to "unlock" his power, triggering the emergence of Seth's dark force. During the Caislean Merlin arc, he confronts Diabal in the castle's dungeons, leaving traces of a struggle. In the Bôme arc, he observes Seth and Ocoho through the Sidh, accompanies Torque to investigate Seth's whereabouts, and attempts to visit Seth in the penitentiary tower during a Nemesis outbreak, breaching barriers to reach him.
